REBEKAH LODGE PLANS BAKING AUCTION Mrs. Jessie McCanna, N.G., and Mrs.Mary Husband, V.G., presided for the regular meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge, No.279. Mrs.Beth Macadam read the correspondence which included many 'thank you' notes and cards of greetings. Mrs.Margaret Gander gave the financial report and Mrs.Helen Wallace the treasurer's report. The sick and visiting account was given by Mrs.Husband who said cards and flowers had been sent to the sick and bereaved and hospital visits had been made. Many members thanked unknown friends for rememb rances over the year. Members were asked to bring home baking to the next meeting when a baking auction will be held, to be convened by Mrs. Bern Whent. Mrs Richard Spicer has returned after a lengthy stay in Terrace Bay hospital and will make her home with Mr.and Mrs.Russell Macadam. Mrs. Hubert Weaver is a patient in McKellar Hos- pital. Mrs.Earl Glad was hostess for a baby shower held in her home Wednesday evening for Mrs.N.Jolicoeur . Mrs.Melvin Glad was co-hostess. Many beautiful gifts were presented along with the bingo gifts which were practical items for the new baby. Mrs.Bob Ellacott assisted the hostesses with the lunch. Guests included Mesdames H.W.Gellert, L.R. McCuaig, Ray Sisson, W.Glad, Bob Ellacott, Jim Grey, John St.Jean,Harold Gellert, W.G,Furlonger and Miss Sylvia Harness. Mrs. Bruce Simon has her brother, Stewart Wilson of Marathon, with her. C.W.L. HEAR TALK ON ALCOHOLISM A turkey cold plate dinner preceded the January meeting of the Catholic Women's League held in the Guild Hall with 63 members present. During the din- ner Mrs.W.Cocks was presented with her Past Presi- dent's Pin by Mrs.Stanley Kusik, C.W.L.president. Mrs. Kusik also thanked the Women's Auxiliary of St. John's Anglican Church who catered for the dinner. The opening prayer for the business meeting was given by Father J.M.Cano and Mrs.S.Kusik was chair man. Mrs.J.E.Stokes read the correspondence which included thank you notes from members and from the Sisters of St.Joseph. Father Cano thanked the members for their generous contribution to the building fund and commended them for their achievements during (continued next column)
