NEW CURLING RINK OPENS A happy event for curlers took place last week in Schreiber when Councillor J.P.Guina cut the ribbon to officially open the new curling rink. Burton Phillips was M.C. for the brief program and others taking part in the ceremony were Mrs. A.W.Slater, Mrs. A.B.McCuaig, W.Thrower, J.B. Ridsdale and H.M.Ermel. Mr.Guina commended the members who had worked so hard to secure the fine building and said it was a credit, not only to the club, but to the Town as well. Following the ceremony first rocks were thrown by Mrs. Bill Thrower, A.B.McCuaig and H.M.Ermel. UNITED CHURCH S.S. CHRISTMAS PAGEANT St. Andrew's United Church Sunday School held a concert and Christmas Pageant in the High School auditorium. Neil Ross, Sunday School Superinten- dent, welcomed the guests, Jack Gordon was pianist and the singing was under the direction of Mrs.Alec Goraon, junior choir leader. The Pageant "Come to the Manger" was presented ly the Junior, Intermediate and Senior classes under ithe direction of Rev. D.F.Muldrew. "Mary" was portrayed by Sandra Clemens and "Joseph" by Carl Wood. The singing during the presentation of the pageant, with the audience participating, was --- by the Junior Choir. The nursery and kindergarten ee sang "Friendly Beasts" and the primary classes recited in unison a }poem "Woodland Animals" and sang the carol "Infant Holy, Infant Lowly". Following the program Santa Cl aus in the person of Fred McColeman arrived and presented the children with gifts and candy and oranges. The backdrop for the pageant was made and painted by Mrs.Jack Johnson and (Continued ....) Patty Ann Collinson with Santa Claus at the Legion Children's Christmgs Party. LEGION CHRISTMAS PARTY The Legion Hall was filled recently for the annual Christmas party for Legion and Auxiliary members' children. Mrs.Inez McKevitt entertained the chil- dren with Christmas music until the arrival of Santa Claus. Each child received a gift plus candy and oranges, and were also served pop and sandwiches. Mesdames Russell Macadam, Bill Kinney and R.E. Gray distributed the gifts and Mesdames Harry Costall, Len Hiller, A.C.Rigelsford and Ivan John- son served the lunch. Mrs.Bruce Lidkea was general convenor. The Schreiber Legion Rememb rance Day essay contest was won by Brenda Dimmery (first) and Nancy Spillane (second). The essays were judged by Gerald Coons, vice-principal of Terrace Bay High School and were then forwarded to Fort William for entry in the Zone Contest. MESSENGERS HOLD CHRISTMAS PARTY A Christmas party followed the regular meeting of the Messengers held in St.Andrew's United Church Hall. The hobby=craft portion of the meeting was spent making Christmas decorations to take home. Leaders Mrs.Russell Macadam, Hal Frommann and George Gordon served sandwiches and pop to the thirty children who attended and each child received a gift and a candy cane. CHRISTMAS PARTY HELD BY REBEKAH LODGE Mrs. Jessie McCanna V.G. and Mrs.Mary Husband V.G., presided for the regular meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge.
