November 19, 1964 MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE AT CENOTAPH The parade to the Cenotaph on Remembrance day was led from the Legion by president J.L.Sawyer, flanked by color bearers Borden Ross and Gerald Coons, with Gino Caccamo as parade marshall . It was the most impressive parade in some years, naires, Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Scouts, Cubs, Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Girl Guides and Brownies and St.John Ambulance Brigade. Rev. F.M.Muldrew was the speaker and the pro- gram was announced by Norman McCuaig. The high school girls' choir led the singing. The raising and lowering of the flag was done by Frank Ginn and Fred Gould was the Bugler. Wreaths were laid by J.L.Sawyer for the Legion and Mrs. Leonard for the Legion Auxiliary; Mrs. P.Bottomley for Motherhood of Canada; Reeve F.V. Harness for the Township; Mrs. Jack Richardson for fallen comrade Jim Richardson; Edward Gerow for fallen comrade Corp.Lesley Gerow; Leonard Hiller for fallen comrade Warren Morril; Mrs.Robert Winters for fallen comrade George Newton; Mrs. Gordon McParland for Catholic Women's League; Mrs.Wesley Miller for the Women's Institute; Jack Handel for the Lions Club; R.C.Skinner for the 1.0.0.F; Bill Weaver for the Kinsmen Club; Jack Johnson for Chapples Ltd; R.B.Spadoni for Spadoni Bros. Ltd. Lloyd Schaan for the Bank of Montreal; Albert Costa for Costa Foodateria Ltd; Mrs.Gino Caccamo for Caccamo's Groceteria; Edward Zielke for St.John Ambulance and George Duncan, only charter member of Branch 109 living in Schreiber placed a wreath for Our Heroes from the Schreiber Hotel. FAREWELL PARTY HELD FOR CORNELL FAMILY Dr.J.M.Cornell, who has been Schreiber physi- cian and M.O.H. for the past twelve years, and his family, were tendered a community farewell on Saturday evening--the occasion arranged in the Anglican Church Hall. Dr.Cornell has ascepted a position on the staff of a Fort William Clinic. On behalf of their friends, Dr.and Mrs .Cornell by three pairs of twins "Dr .Cornell's babies"~- Patrick and Michael Mulligan, Norah and Nancy McGuire and Michael and Michelle Stortini. In response, Dr.Cornell thanked everyone and hoped that they would extend the same warm friendliness to Dr.Searles who is taking his place. The tea was poured by Mrs.Ted Wilson and Mrs. R.J.S.Inshaw, Mrs.Robt.Winters(Continued ....) those taking part including the veterans and Legion- were presented with a crystal bowl filled with money, COUNCIL REVIEWS WATER RATES The reeve and full council wifh R.C. Skinner, clerk, and E.Borutski, attended the November meeting of Municipal Council. Minutes of the last regular and four special meetings, and Court of Revision, were approved. J.M.McGrath reported work is progressing satis- factorily on water main installation in the south end and that repair work on the Cooks Lake dam is com- pleted. Word was received that the deadline for applica- tions for centennial grants has been extended to August 5, 1965. Notice of decision to make appli- cation must be submitted by March 31. In reply to their request for drill quarters the Sea Cadets were informed that, since the Town Hall auditorium is occupied with office space, only the basement hall is now available for cummunity use, and no storage space is free. Letters from the Ontario Mayors and Reeve Assoc. and from N'western Ontario Development Assoc., were filed for further consideration, as was one from the Ontario Cemetery Association regarding a meet- ing Port Arthur in November . In response to letter from the Attorney General's office regarding the drowning of Vincent Pasqualina, Council replied they were in complete accord with the coroner's jury findings. Water accounts of $96.56 and general accounts totalling $21,237.48 were passed for payment. A lengthy discussion was held when water rates and other pertinent problems were reviewed. It was fin- ally agreed that no rebate will be allowed unless the water shut-off is done by municipal employee and the fee for turning water on again was set at $5. Rates were set as follows:- Residential $7 per quar- ter; stores & banks $10 per quarter; restaurants, garages, laundries $14-per quartér; hotels $35 per quarter; motels $1.50 per unit, per quarter. If paid for year on or before January 29 a discount of 14 1/4 percent will be given. It was also decided that property owners will be responsible for water services. In rented apartments-flats- except where service exists, yearly water rates shall be applicable. Refund of parking tickets were made to Mrs.Ruth Hiller $2 and N.Jolicoeur $1. The Clerk stated a receipt book will be given to the Chief Constable from which receipts should be given by him for monies received and this money turned in to the Municipal Office to be deposited in the police bank account. Mr .Skinner also reminded Council that in Decem- ber the following appointments should be made:- three members to the rink committee for two year period, R.Bedard, J.McCouan and Bill Kinney com- ing off this year; also one member (Continued.....)
