The congregation of St. Andrew's United Church welcomed Rev. Douglas Sly, of ae erehe as the guest speaker on Sunday morning. Mr. Sly is Schreiber'ts only native son to enter the ministry of the Protestant church. With some interest it was noted that Rev. Sly would have no qualms regarding music for the service since in the congregation were four past org- anists of the church and also Miss Diane Rummery, assistant to Jack Gordon the present one. The others were: Mrs. Robert Nelson of Winnipeg, the former Fanny Scott who presided over fifty years ago: her hephew, Jim Scott, also of Winnipeg, who was organist over six- teen years ago; Mrs. Jack Smitheman and Mrs. Lester McCuaig both of Schreiber. CHURCH VACATION SCHOOL The first Church vacation school, for the United Church, has been carried on most succ- essfully by Rev. Fraser Muldrew and Mrs. Muldrew, assisted by Muriel Nesbitt, Linda Handel, Daryl Lynn and Wendy Weaver, The child ren were divided into age groups of four, six seven, and eight years, and nine, ten, and eleven years. The classes, beginning at 9 a.m. started with a singing session, going on to Bible classes, handicrafts, and recreation which due to the fine weather, were all carr- ied on outdoors, making a lively scene on the Church grounds. Open house for parents and friends on Friday morning ended the school. Bible School pupils and leaders are pictured below. Photo by Inez McCuaig ANOTHER MOTEL OPENS IN DISTRICT The Nor-West Motel, with ten units, has re- cently opened in Schreiber. Situated on the street immediately north of the highway, it is finished in California redwood and tapestry brick. There are single and double wnits fini- shed in blonde wood panelling, each with pri- vate bath, chesterfield, and easy chairs for complete relaxation. An added attraction in the double units is provided by the privacy afforded by walled off cubicles in which the beds are placed, Ten more units will be added next year. Moose or pictures of them are no novelty in this _ district. However, when it's right in your own back yard (and out of hunting season at that) it's a differ- ent thing. This picture was taken about 5 a.m. one recent morning. The moose wandered through séver- al yards - investigated a couple of parked cars then headed for St.Martin's School playground where it was snapped. We had a call last Saturday morning to come and see the thousands of moths collected on a light pole near the highway. The birds were having a real feast (whether they consider these--or the straw- berries they have been feasting on--desserf or entree we don't know). It was impossible to get a picture of the moths--they blended into the color of the pole This morning we noticed many of the poles and some windows with generous quantities of the same moths. Presumably they are the same species which have recently invaded other towns in N'western Ontario in uncomfortable quantities. Don and Helen Boudreau arrived home from visit- ing with relatives in North Bay. They were accom- panied by Don's father, Mr.Marcel Boudreau, who will spend the summer with them. Mrs .Sadie Gaulin has returned from the Sault . where she attended art classes sponsored by the Al- goma Art Society and conducted by Rob ert Hedrick, painter and sculptor of Toronto.
