SUMMER PROGRAMME With the opening of the summer Swimming and | Playground Programme only a few weeks away, we ask parents to once again note these important facts: SWIMMING 1. Swim classes will be held from 9 - 12 every week- day morning. Children will be informed of the days and times when they register . Registrations for swim classes will be received by the Instructors, AT THE POOL, June 26, 27, 28 and 29th. . Children should attend ALL classes for their group, RAIN OR SHINE. . Rules regarding bathing hats, discipline and safety will be enforced rigidly. Those not complying will be suspended from using the pool for in- definite periods. PLAYGROUND . Programme will again be run from the Ball Hut, Monday to Friday weekly. . Hours will be 9 A.M. to 12 Noon (for those not taking swim classes) and 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. (for those who DO take swim classes) . . Every Friday afternoon will be SPECIAL EVENT DAY. . ONLY CHILDREN OF SCHOOL.AGE MAY ATTEND. . In addition to the regular activities of arts, crafts, games, sing~songs, story-telling, hiking, physical fitness etc., several new activities will be added. Among these will be softball, volleyball, badmin- ton, paddle tennis and tether ball. At a later date, circulars outlining all details of | the Summer Programme, including Pool hours, will be distributed . JUNIOR HOCKEY MEETING A meeting of all people interested in the Schreiber= Terrace Bay Junior Hockey team will be held this Wednesday evening in the Small Meeting Room of the Recreation Centre. Anyone who is interested in assis- ting in any way is urged to be at this meeting. VOLUNTEER LIFEGUARDS NEEDED Volunteer lifeguards are needed for swimming super- vision until June 29th. These people must be 18 years old OR hold a Bronze Medallion. We only require this volunteer staff up to the time that the Pool Summer Staff takes over the programme. If you can help, even once or twice a week, call the Rec. Office. ANNUAL CUBOREE HELD IN TERRACE BAY Pic River District held its third annual Cuboree Saturday afternoon with the Terrace Bay group, the host for this year. District Commissioner Roland Wills welcomed the 171 boys and their leaders who came from Manitouwadge, Marathon and Schreiber to partake in the afternoon's events, held in the Arena due to inclement weather. Besides a busy afternoon of fun, games and lunch, the Wolf Cubs, in their Packs, were passed through eight testing stations, taking individual tests on the three stages of Cub work - Tenderpad, First Star and Second Star. When the points were tallied, the brand new Trophy was presented by D.C. Wills to the First Manitouwadge Cub Pack with a Terrace Bay Pack just decimal points behind. All Packs of the District did extremely well in these tests, each making above seventy five percent. A pleasant addition to the event was pop provided for all the boys by Dorans Ltd. who have just taken over the local Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. Coffee was served to the adults by the Group Committee. Cub Master Paul Maleshewski of Terrace Bay was assisted in the Cuboree by D.C. Wills, the Terrace Bay Scout Troop and many of the local men. The afternoon closed to the resounding echoes of the Grand Howl. ee LOCAL MAN DROWNS IN HAYES LAKE The body of James Kilby, age 53, of Terrace Bay was recovered Monday morning, June 8th in Hayes Lake by Constables Reg Essa and Jerry Watson, skin divers of the Ontario Provincial Police in Port Arthur . Fishing alone on Saturday, Jim Kilby was last seen at 5.00 P.M. by some American fishermen who dis- covered his overturned canoe, raincoat and fishing equipment Sunday morning and notified the Police. In charge of the search was Cpl. Duncan and Constable Scott of the Schreiber Detachment, O.P.P Mr. Kilby had been employed by Kimberly-Clark Pulp & Paper Co. Ltd. in their Terrace Bay Mill since May 27, 1948, working as Stationary Engineer. He resided at the North Camp and was an adherent of St. Martin's Roman Catholic Church. He was a mem ber of the International Brotherhood Pulp, Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers, Local 665. Mr. Kilby is survived by a brother, Francis, of R.R. #1, Angers, Quebec. Mr. Kilby had worked at Ralphtown, Ont. for the Hydro Electric Commission prior to coming to Terrace Bay and for the Caribou Gold Co. in Wells, B.C. and Ocean Power & Paper Co. in their (Cont'd pg.7)
