BAND CONCERT ROUSING SUCCESS A rousing March tempo, "Imperial Echoes", theme of the BBC Newscast heralded the Third Annual Fanfare Night presented Friday evening by the Terrace Bay Band in the Highschool Auditorium. Welcomed by Mr. John Ferrier afte the National Anthem, the "standing room only" bespoke of the increased and well-deserved interest Terrace Bay is showing in their Town Band. Off to a popular beginning with Moller's "The Happy Wanderer", Mr. Ferrier noted the progress made by the musicians in order to present their next and very accomplished selection - "Fatinitza Overture" by Franz Von Suppe. Three talented clarinetists - W. Farrell, W. Megraw and D. Whitley provided a brief interlude with Chamber Music. In fine old mustache twirling tradition a Barber Shop Quartet of H. and D. Lohr, K. Lerner and A, Pattison, members of the Men's Chorus, sang many of the favourites of that era, followed by the Band in the same mood with "Belle of the Ball", a medley of Gay Nineties!' Tunes. Guest artists for the evening were members of Mrs, Markall*s Dancing Class. This young group, whose training commenced this year, were augmented by Lakehead dancers as they per formed a great variety of numbers; tap, ballet Sailor's Hornpipe, Baton Twirling, acrobatic and the Charleston. Returning to the stage after intermission, the Band played the lopping "Teddy Bear's Picnic", then off to Latin America with "Malaguena. Band President D, Whitley was introduced by the Master of Ceremonies to conduct their Graduation Ceremony. Presented with pins by Band Director Ellen Hodgkiss, the first group of Jane Colborne, Stanley Megraw, Tom and Don Gerow, Don Brearley, Bob Gould and Ricky Lohr had completed the previous course and were now playing in the Band. The second group of graduates who would be joining the Band after the concert were Sig Erickson, Jim Beddard, | Hunter Safety training will commence next April 23, 1964 John Ferrier, Fred Erickson, Claude Rochon and Ted Young. Mr. Whitley particularly wished to recognize the achievements of Bill Farrell, assisted by Dave Braybrook and Bill Colborne who had devoted a great deal of time and talent to the conducting of these classes. invited anyone interested in pursuing this form of recreation to join one of their classes which usually began in the fall. Closing his remarks, Mr. Whitley dedicated the next two swing numbers, "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "Hello, My Baby" to the wives and mothers who had patiently withstood the practices. A concert novelty, "Peter and the Wolf", the aki children's tale, proved another favourite on the repertoire followed by: ®friomode™ featuring the trumpet section. For popular variation, "Lazy River" and "Your Cheating Heart" were played before closing 'with "Colonel Miner's March" and the "Queen", Members of the Terrace Bay Band performing Friday evening under their Conductress Ellen Hodgkiss were: W.F.
