ee THE CGIT HOLD INDIAN DINNER The three groups within the United Church CGIT ended their Mission study with a typical Indian din- ner recently. The menu, cooked in advance in one of the leaders' home, included curried chicken, a relish of coconut, onions and tomatoes, with porries (bread), and was eaten with the fingers while seated on the floor. After the meal the servitors provided finger bowls and fingertip towels. Leaders and girls wore bright saris with Nola Fummerton wearing a particularly lovely one of material sent home by her brother, Sigmn.Norman Fummerton from Egypt. Mrs .Ted Wilson left for Victoria where she will visit her niece Mrs.W.Devlin and attend John Devlin's wedding. M.E.Stokes was in Port Arthur with his mother, Mrs.Pat Brown, during funeral rites for her husband. Mrs. Bill Forsythe is being transferred by the Bank of Montreal to the Regina branch. Reeve F.V.Harness, J.D .Phillips and J.E.Stokes are in Toronto attending the Ontario Hydro conven= tion. A.W.Slater will join Mr.Harness and the two will represent the local branch at a Credit Union convention. Mrs.Harness and Mrs .Slater are accompanying their husbands. Mrs .Inez McKevitt is a patient in McKellar Hos- pital . In the recent ladies bonspiel it was Lorraine Nes- bitt, not Lorraine Weaver, who presented prizes. Rev. Sister Edwina's parents, Mr.and Mrs.Gerry Sheehan of Douglas, Ontario, visited her last week, enroute home from a holiday in the west. Mrs.Peter Sparkes was in Fort William last week visiting her husband in Westmount Hospital and her sister in McKellar Hospital . Mr.and Mrs. Gary Drake were in Fort William recently visiting Mrs.George Drake in Grandview Lodge. Cathy Wright celebrated her fifth birthday on Feb.23rd with a party for seven girls and boys. George and Joy Riley and Mavis and Gerry Godi were at the Lakehead to attend the Kinsmen Found- ing celebration. Clare Wright, Chapples manager, is in Fort Wil- liam on business. Mrs.Lloyd Walker and Mrs. Muriel Singleton were there recently on a buying trip. Mrs .John St.Jean took her two-year-old daugh- ter to St.Joseph's Hospital in Port Arthur recently. Mr .and Mrs.Dick Remillard, Danny and Lise, of the Soo, visited Mr.and Mrs.Oscar Laine last week. While their hostess was inveigled away from her home on Monday evening, a group of Mrs.George (Bun) Scott's friends gathered there to give her a surprise birthday party. The special cake was made by Mrs.Bob Fournier and a pole lamp presented by the following guests:- Mesdames Harry Shack, Harry Martinson, Walter Guillet, Forbes Macadam, Aino Sulonen, Bob Jones, Gary Drake, George Burns, Pat Bolan, Alex Furyk, Mike Smilsky, Bill Kinney, Russell McBride and Steve Petrushack . FUNERAL SERVICE HELD IN SCHREIBER The funeral of the late Mrs.Serena Jane England, aged 69, whose death occurred in Toronto onFeb.. 19th was conducted by Rev. Fraser Muldrew in the Gawley Chapel on February 28th. Interment was in Schreiber Cemetery. The pallbearers were Mervyn Whent and George Paxton of White River, Bill Little and Lawrence England of Toronto, Donald Gawley and Emmett Holland, Schreiber. Mrs.England, whose husband, the late William England predeceased her in 1948, left Schreiber that year and has lived in Toronto since. She is survived by two sons, Lawrence and Donald and one daughter, Faith (Mrs.William Burridge), all of Toronto. Attending the service from out of town were Mrs. W .Birridge, Lawrence England, Bill Little and Mr. and Mrs. Fred England of Toronto, Mr.and Mrs. George Paxton, Mervyn Whent of White River, Mr .and Mrs .Ernest Lundquist and Mrs .Cli fford ~ Jacomb of Fort William. JUVENILES DEFEAT HOUSE LEAGUE 3 - 1 The Juveniles defeated the House League 3 - 1 last Sunday afternoon in an exhibition game. The proceeds were donated to the Artificial Ice Fund. The House team played Joe Figliomeni (goal), K. Dooley, Neil & Norm Bottomley, E. Nesbitt, Pee- wee Figliomeni, J. Hara, "Trapper" O'Brien, C. Figliomeni, R. Gauthier, |. Martin, B. Harper, B. Campbell, Joe Figliomeni (Texaco Joe), and the Juveniles used Hamilton (goal), D. Gagan, Roy & Jody Davis, D. MacDonald, J. McParland, T. Wilson, H. Bryar, J. Small, L. Duggan, F. Com- misso and Paddy Duggan. "Coke" Campbell was referee, Keith Scott managed the House League team and Bill Woodrow coached the Juveniles. Figure skating solos were given by M, D'Amours, Shirley Ann Winters & Nancy Spillane. There will be a shower tea.in honor of Mrs. Terry Britton, nee Joyce McFadden, Wednesday, March 11th, from 8-10 in the United Church Hall. 7
