The health of the community has been good except for influenza - like illnesses wide.-. spread throughout the town and area since Fall There has been no more than the usual amount of childhood infectious disease. Examination of new pupils was done at both grade schools as in the past and the program of immunization for all pupils was carried out against polio, diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough. Mrs. Lois Hopper, the school nurse, made frequent visits to both schools for vision testing, immunization, and search for any health abnormalities. Immunization of infants and pre-school children was done at the hospital as usual. A few adults have carried on with their polio immunization. There were no cases of Scarlet Fever, Polio Whooping Cough, or Diphtheria. There were several adult cases of Mumps and many amongst the children. There were no cases of Tuber- culosis. No cases of Venereal Disease were discovered during the year. All three schools were inspected during the year and found to be in good sanitary conditio The sanitary facilities of the local ser- vice stations were examined during the year and found to be in good sanitary condition. The local hotel, the Plaza Restaurant, and the Snack Bar at the Recreation Centre were inspected at intervals and found to be satis- factory. Bacteria counts were done on glasses plates, and cutlery from each at the Regional Lab. in Fort William. A monthly inspection of the North Camp facilities was done and bacterial counts done THE NEWS Page ll here as well. All water samples from the town supply were submitted to the Provincial Lab. and reported mA t is The town's three sewage systems are func- tioning well. They were inspected during August by a Provincial Sanitary Engineer. During 1963, there were 49 births to re- sidents of Terrace Bay in our hospital and a total of 110 births. Speziale of Schreiber, a daughter, on February 22nd. ES LADIES AUXILIARY SEE SPRING FASHIONS With Mrs. L. Hopper in the chair, the Ladies Auxiliary held their regualr meeting Monday evening in the Terrace Bay Community Church, Mrs. C. Gould accompanied the opening hymn and Rev. T. Garnett Husser took the service with a pre-Easter Worship. The Secretary's report and correspondence were read by Mrs. J. Shritt and Mrs. M. Chis- holm gave the Treasurer's report. The fol- lowing Convenors reported: Sick and Visiting - Mrs. B. Sweet, Program - Mrs. L. Downey, Property - Mrs. E. Haughn, Ways and Means - Mrs. L. Harris. The Auditors report was given by Mrs. A. Farrow. A lunch committee volunteered to arrange refreshments for Sunday evening when the Rev. Mrs. R.M. Bennett will be present from World Mission. She will show a film on Leprosy. Kay Anderson of Anford's Ltd. spoke briefly on spring fashions, then introduced Virginia Galvin who commentated. Models were Tina Yo Helen Brooks, Ann Latour, Joan Hopper, Faye Thorsteinson and Deborah Anderson, for the display of fashions. Make up was provided by Stella Brown.
