A reply from the Department of Lands and Forests stated they knew of no other community in Ontario using a tranquilizer gun in dog catching and recom- mended contacting the Humane Society. The Society was vehement in describing this as a dangerous lethal weapon--one used only on wild animals. They elicited the information Ontario law provides for dogs running at large to be impounded or killed, but not wounded. Reeve Heenan requested the Secre tary to present the By-Law at the next general meet- ing for revision. os The Department of Highways advised Council any new appointment as Road Superintendent would have to be approved by their Department first and passed as a By-Law. They also reminded Council of the necessity of seeking tenders, and receiving approval from them, on roads works. Reeve Heenan could only assume the discussion at the last Council! meet- ing was considered conclusive rather than tentative planning. With only a Tuesday game at Marathon remaining, it is impossible for any of the other teams to overhaul Terrace Bay. Once again the victory proved to be a team effort, although the Superiors appeared ragged at times. Coach Paulsen will have to get the players back to peak form before playoffs if they are to continue their drive to be North Shore representa- tives. Goal scorers on Sunday were Marvin Osmar, M Maurice Osmar, Calder and Whalen, with two goals each, and Cowan and Adamo with singles. Goalie Webb lost his shut-out bid at the midway mark of the final period, primarily because of loose clearing on the part of the defense. With Kolody and Pollard out of the line-up Superiors lacked their regular balance. Both of these players will return for playoffs. Playoffs commence this week-end in Terrace Bay when the Wawa Iron Men come to town. Arrange- ments are being made to hold the games on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Watch the bulletin boards at the Mill and the Recreation Centre for further notice. INTERMEDIATE PLAYOFFS THIS WEEKEND The North Shore Intermediate semi-final series commences this weekend when the Terrace Bay Superiors play host to the Wawa IRON MEN. This is the start of a 4 out of 7 semi-final. Games will probably be played in the afternoons both on Satur- day and Sunday, 'with starting times set at 1.30 p.m. This will enable fans to attend the game without interfering with their Saturday T.V. game. It is hoped that this will assure us of a good turnout. The SUPERIORS have won the North Shore League championship for only the third time since their entry into the league and they deserve your support. All year long they have showed fine team effort, and will undoubtedly represent the North Shore in the Thunder Bay playoffs if the fans turn out to give them support. Ticket prices have been raised slightly for the playoffs, but with crowds still being quite low it is not deemed necessary to sell reserved seats. See the ad on page seven for playoff prices.
