MINOR HOCKEY NEWS An impressive total of 9 (nine) men turned out for the Annual Meeting of the Minor Hockey Association last week...and of these nine, five were men who do NOT have boys playing Minor Hockey. How these fellows are expected to provide hockey for the 200 registered boys may cause a bit of a problem. This habit of waiting for "George" to do the work has be- come more and more prevalent over the past few years in Minor Hockey, Minor Baseball and other activities. Unfortunately, those people who "stay away" when their help is needed: are always among the first to offer criticism when something doesn't please them. What are you? A "helper" or a "critic"? As a result of the meeting, however, a nominating committee was formed to bring in aslate of officers for the 1963-64 executive, along with suggested names for Chairmen of the various Minor Hockey Divisions. Date for the second meeting was last night (Tuesday). Results of this meeting will be published in next week's News. In the meantime, anyone who has still not regis- tered for Minor Hockey should do so immediately. Forms ore available at the Recreation Office. CHRISTMAS PARTY MEETING THURSDAY Only 5 ladies turned out to the Christmas Party meeting held last week, so a second meeting has been called for this Thursday, at 2.00 P.M., in the Large Room of the Rec. Centre. = Plans for this year's Party will be discussed and Committees formed to handle the planning and programme. This is your chance to assist. DON'T MISS THIS MEETING! 11 October 31,. 1963 COUNCIL QUOTES A short meeting of Council Monday evening con- cluded Township business for the month of October and was presided over by Reeve J.P. Heenan .. Councillors Wellings, Adamo, Valiquette and Fraser approved the minutes of the past meeting as read by Secretary W.F. Strutt. The September Fire Department report from Fire Chief R. Hofland itemized the month's activities and listed 104 fire free days to the end of that month. Correspondence included replies to previously ap- proved Municipal business and a note of gratitude to Mr. A.M. Centner who had allowed the sidewalk to be built on his property, providing a much needed thoroughfare from Simcoe Plaza to Selkirk Avenue. A request to the Department of Municipal Affairs sought reimbursement in the amount of $3,478.65 in connection with their winter works program. Two motions were passed by Council - the first to purchase the fogging machine at the quoted price of $1,892.00, and the second to include in the previously passed motion for sidewalks and lands- caping, an additional 874 square yards at a cost of $1,223.00 in the tender submitted by P. Bou- dreau and authorized for payment. On the Reeve's inquiry, he learned from Council- lor Wellings the sewage lagoon work had been com- pleted with just brushing out and cleaning up now underway. Reeve Heenan observed this should finish sewage lagoon work for some time fo come. -Council discussed completing the road work on Sim- coe Plaza, concluding the year's projects. Coun- cillor Adamo felt it would solve the parking problem for this winter but advised the heavy gravel be graded. Council agreed this area should be paved in the spring if possible. Councillor Valiquette enquired if they had adver- tised for a Police Constable and was informed this _was being attended to. Councillor Fraser's questions on fire hydrant mar- kers.were to be referred by him to Mr. H. Hall, the Roads Supt. Councillor Wellings replied to ques- tions on equipment to locate broken water lines, explaining the wide range in price and efficiency. He strongly recommended the inclusion of sewer and water lines in next year's budget for the Lakeview extension. The Secretary notified Council that nominations would be held on the last Monday in November with elections one week later. BUY CANADA SAVINGS BONDS
