" x LEGION TRACK AND FIELD CLINIC Friday evening in the Curling Club Lounge, a four day Track and Field Clinic, sponsored i by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223 in. | Terrace Bay, for youths registering from Marathon, Schreiber and Terrace Bay, came to its conclusion with a windup Banquet and pre- sentation of awards earned, A vote of thanks was given to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion,for their delicious Supper with ample replenishments for approximately one hundred young people and guests, Master of Ceremonies for the Banquet, Assistant Director Mr, Fred Taylor stated it had been a vary worthwhile effort in Terrace Bay this year, and emphasized the amount of work involved in organizing and preparing for this Travelling Clinic, He thanked the members of the Legion, the Ladies Auxiliary, Ken Ward the Recreation Director and particularly the girls and boys who had turned out faith- fully afternoons and evenings working very hard and performing well, Awards earned during the final meet to conclude the four day training clinic were presented at this point with Mr, Taylor ex- plaining the point system on which they had been merited - five points for a first place, three for a second and one for a third, Three winners in each division received ribbons with the addition of a sports book to those in first place, Mr, Taylor called upon | the winners in the following order: Girls | Eleven and under - 1st - Lynn Simmer, 2nd - | Leona Vienneau, 3rd.- Katharine Pinéault, President of the Legion, Mr, Bill Baillie | | | ' CHR : te PHONE 760 | Auxiliary Mrs, Betty Wood had the pleasure of SPECIALLY PRICED AT $49 Soman BR nd \ DS: ea Ds Soyo neaneengnem ret enema te h '. - a a SSRN | | | ; ' added his congratulation as he presented the awards to girls twelve years of age, lst - Nancy Earle of Marathon who had an exceedingly high tally of 31 points, 2nd - Betty Yates, 3rd - Jane Colborne. President of the Ladies presenting the Senior Girls with their awards, lst - Connie Fawcett, 2nd - Sheila Comeau of Marathon and 3rd - Velma LeBlanc, Reeve J,P. Heenan congratulated the eleven year old boys on their merits, lst - Joseph Papineau who also tallied high with 29 points, 2nd - Garry Suo and 3rd - Graham Coe, Sports Chairman for the Terrace Bay Legion, Jim ~ Clancy awarded the boys twelve years of age, lst - Brian Pineault, 2nd - Peter Heenan, 3rd = Peter Douglas of Marathon, Rod MacKay, President of the Marathon Canadian Legion, who accompanied the Marathon entrants in the Sport Clinic, made the awards to the thirteen and fourteen year old boys, ist - David Falzetta,another high scorer with 31 points, 2nd - Bob Gray of Marathon, 3rd - Errol Morres, Terrace Bay's popular Recreation Director Ken Ward presented the Senior Boys with their awards, lst - Clifford Wood, 2nd - Jim Duggan of Schreiber, 3rd - Bob Creighton of Marathon.
