C, Finley requesting he accept chairmanship of the Bush Fire Committee and outlining the responsibili- ties entailed, A letter from the Terrace Bay Minor Hockey Association strongly recommended the presen- tation of Town crests to the Bantam Allstars, who in competition in the Lakehead, were awarded the C.W, Cox Trophy, This was the first time since the Trophy was first present- ed in 1933 that. it had ever been taken out of the Lakehead, Reeve Heenan explained that in presenting the Crest for Sports awards, it remained strictly for those reaching Provin- cial or Dominion finals, In reply to recommendations submitted to Council from the Chamber of Commerce, Reeve Heenan expressed appreciation for the contin- ued suggestions, stating that item one would be accepted in part ~ that is, to extend. the parking area easterly on Simcoe Plaza; item two to park trailers parallel on the south side of Simcoe Plaza was rejected, due to the hazard to parked vehicles; item three to send a representative to their meeting to discuss the Hawkers and Peddlers By-Law was rejected but that a representative from the Chamber of Commerce might present any suggestion to Coun- cil giving due written notification, Recreation Association accounts for March were perused and passed for payment, Councillor Fraser enquired into the extra training requested previously for the volun- teer Firemen and was informed this would be dealt with at a meeting of the Police and Fire Committees, Councillor Vaiiquette commented briefly on assistance fro local organizations in developing the park area due to the fact the individual previously in- _ terested in the trailer _park(Cont'd on Page 7 the District in which we live May 3, 1962 YOUTH CONFERENCE GREAT SUCCESS Twenty local delegates to this year's Northwestern Ontario Youth Conference, held last week at Dryden, returned full of enthu- siam for the varied programme that had been presented. Over 300 delegates from North- western Ontario took part and gained consider- able knowledge and guidance from the addresses by speaker H.E, Thomas of the Department of Education and Dr, Michael Grapko of the University of Manitoba. In addition to the educational part of the Conference were the social events that were thoroughly enjoyed, Teen Town expresses sincere thanks to Mrs, A, Berndtsson for her assistance as a counsel- lor, and to all the local delegates for their fine performance. Except for the slight mixup in transportation on the return trip, for which the executive apologizes, all went smoothly, Don't forget that there are several fund- raising events, in support of the Swimming Pool, that will commence soon, LET*S HAVE YOUR SUPPORT. ONTARIO. RECREATION ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE The recent Provincial Conference for the ° Ontario Recreation Association, held at Port Arthur last weekend, was attended by over 300 delegates from all parts of Ontario, This conference is held annually so that recreation people may exchange ideas, discuss new trends, legislation and finance, and hear from noted people in the field, Theme for this year was "Creative Living" and main speakers were: Mayor Saul Laskin of Port Arthur, W. Conron, President of 0.R.A, C. McIntosh, Director of Quetico Conference and Training Centre, H, Parsons, Lakehead Area Planning Board, H.E. Thomas, Special Services Director of Community Programmes Branch of the Department of Education, and R, Strike, Q2.C., Ontario Hydro, In addition to the addresses by these people, which were explored thoroughly in small discussion groups, there were several Seminars where prepared papers were presented for review and discussion. These were: (1) Legislation for Recreation - D, --s Director of Recreation, Kitchener, (2) Financing for Recreation - D, Garvie, Dept. of Education, Community Prog. Branch (3) Philsophy and Training of Recreation Committee Members - R. Secord, Department of Education, Community Programme Branch, Industrial Recreation - Panel of Indust-. rial Directors.
