While our record to date is an enviable one let*s not rest on our laurels --- be con- stantly alert to the dangers of FIRE, A MESSAGE FROM THE TOWNSHIP COUNCIL The Township Council congratulates Town Fire Chief Hofland and Captain of the Volun- teer Brigade, Gordon Kydd, upon successfully completing a course on Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting sponsored by the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office, The course was at Graven- hurst, Ontario and covered a five-day period. Council also commends two other citizens of Terrace Bay for action in preventing the spread of fire in the Township this summer; Clem Lemay for extinguishing a fire starting from the campfire of a previous fisherman at Craig Lake and Donald Teniuk for alerting Volunteer Captain Gordon Kydd, enabling Gordon to extinguish what could have been a serious. fire in the woods behind Birch Cres- cent, (Signed) J,A.Ferrier, '. Brien 0'Brien of Fort William was re-elected vice-president of the association. ' Directors representing the area from White 'River to Pigeon River also include Mr.O*Brien and Angelo Maure of Port Arthur, The association agreed to promote travel on Highway 17 and 61 from Sault Ste,Marie to Duluth as well as a network of highways in the U.S. Plans to produce 50,000 copies of a Lake Superior circle route booklet were finalized, COMPLAINTS ON DOGS RUNNING AT LARGE RECEIVED ee a EE CCC CCC TL CLL Local police are receiving complaints from citizens on the number of dogs running at large, Dog owners are reminded that Section 3A of By-law 129A covering the control of dogs says: "No person is permitted to allow his or her dog to run at large in the township and all dogs must be tied up at all times except when on a chain or lead, accompanied by the owner, or between the hours of 8:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M, daily. Any dogs running at large may be captured and killed, a TERRACE' BAY RESIDENT DIES SUDDENLY One of the early residents of Terrace Bay, Mrs. Helen Wainwright, aged 45, passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, October 9th, The former Helen Harmer, she was born in Minto, Manitoba on March 16th, 1961, received her schooling in Nesbitt, Manitoba and was married September 5th, 1935 in Brandon, Mrs. Wainwright lived for some time in the Lake- head, coming to Terrace Bay in 1948, She was an adherent of the United Church, Surviving are her husband Jack and daughter Myrna, of Espanola, her Father, John Narmer of Winnipeg, brothers and sisters in Fort William, Winnipeg and Vancouver, She was pre-deceased by a son, John, (Cont?d Page 7)
