I cIDDIES RIDES HERE THURSDAY No. 32 August 10, 1961 i COMETS VICTORIOUS IN THREE GAMES The Terrace Bay Comets enjoyed their most successful weekend since the season got under- way when, on Saturday night, they met the West- Fort.Albions and won the game 2-1. Rex Taylor gained the mound victory for the Comets. The Albions used three pitchers, White started and was rélieved by Murray and then Stevenson who finished up for the Albions, with White taking the loss. On Sunday the Comets were in Port Arthur to play the Red Sox two games. In the first game the Comets built up a 5 - 0 }éad before the Red Sox scored their one and only run and went on to win 5 - i. Karl Kolody went the distance : for the Comets while the Red Sox used Jim Arnott and Dick Hygaard with Arnott taking the jloss. ; In the second game the Comets squeezed out a 2-1 victory. Durable Red Taylor went the distance for the Comets while Pete Roberts went | the distance for the Red Sox. As a resulttof the weekend games the Comets are a few percentage points ahead of Red Rock i; in fourth place. The Paper Kings defeated the Fort William East Ends twice 1 - 0 and 4 - 0. Had Red Rock dropped one of these games the j Comets would have been in fourth place all alon¢. The Comets will now have to replay a tie game with East Ends to decide fourth spot. ' Should the Comets win this game they will ad- vance into the play-offs. Should they lose they will have to play-off with Red Rock to | decide fourth place. | } | t The game with the East Ends will be played in Port Arthur on Thursday night. Plans are underway for a motorcade to leave Terrace Bay between 4 and 4,30 P.M. to attend this game. Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club the weekend event soncluded at 8 P.M, Sumiay evening with the weigh-in conduc- ted in the Arena. A large crowd gathered to _jenjoy the many games. of chance and to watch | | the awards. | Master of Ceremonies war Monty: Paget and tension mounted as the last minute entries made several changes in the lineup of prizes.
