CANADIAN STAMP NAMED "PEST OF YEAR" (Canada Post Office News Release) A Canadian postage stamp, issued last May 19 to commemorate the famous stand of Dollard Des Ormeaux and his companions at the Long Sault, has been named "best of the year" by an outstanding British philatelic authority, it was revealed today by. the Hon.William Hamilton, Postmaster General. The blue and brown Des Ormeaux stamp, which pictures a profile of the gallant French leader against a background battle scene, won first place in the 1960 "Ten Best" list of the Stamp Collector's Annual. Selections are made yearly from among the thousand or more stanps issued by all countries. The award- | winners are chosen by L.,E,Scott, a noted English philatelic writer. The Dollard stamp was designed by Philip Weise, a native of Quebec who now lives in Ottawa. Another stamp designed by Mr.Weiss won a place on the "Ten, Best" list for 1959, Mr.Scott referred to the Des Ormeaux stamp as a little masterpiece, The Postmaster General pointed out that another stamp, marking the centennial gf the birth of the Indian poetess, E.Pauline John- son, woald be issued early in 1961 and would honour the tremendous contribution of Canada's Indians to the development of the nation, ENTERTAINING READING ; Lately we've been highly entertained by reading through, of all things, an old cook book titled Mrs.Beeton's Cookery. A search reveals no publication date but the price of the book was one shilling and the publisher was Ward Lock & Company, Eng- land.
