"TERRAGE Bay News Circulation Terrace Bay & Schreiber ARENA OPENING SET FOR THIS WEEKEND Unless further difficulties arise, the Terrace Bay Arena Winter Season will begin this coming weekend, Arena schedules will be distributed through the mail and will be: posted at each of the schools and on the bulletin boards of the Recreation Centre and Arena. The schedules you receive through the mail will be for a three-week period, Please keep these so that you will be aware of the times of arena events. BENNY HAYES, MANAGER & DAVE WHALEN COACH OF SUPERIORS THIS YEAR With a new hockey season fast approaching the Terrace Bay Superiors are just waiting for the ice surface in the arena to be readied, Benny Hayes, former Superior, has accepted the Manager's job. Benny formerly played with the Geraldton Hockey Team before coming to Terrace Bay. Always a top calibre player, Benny also played with the Air Force. His extensive hockey experience will be a big asse to the Superiors, Dave Whalen will again coach the club, He has brought the Superior squad a long way in the league during his tenure as coach. It is a matter of record that the year the Superiors ended the season in first place Dave was coach, So with Hayes and Whalen at the helm of the club hopes run high for a real good hockey season, Most of last year's players will be return- ing. SCOUTS HOLD AREA CONFERENCE IN TERRACE BAY Last Friday evening seventy-seven boys and seventeen leaders gathered in Terrace Bay to attend the East Thunder Bay Patrol Leaders! and Seconders! Scout Conference. The group, invited to Terrace Bay, were billeted in local homes and included contin- gents from Marathon, Long-Lac-Geraldton and Cameron Falls-Nipigon areas. District Scout Master Bill Megraw was largely reponsible for arrangements for the Conference, Participants registered at the High School on Friday evening - regrouping at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday morning, Following introduction of District Staff, Sam Baxter, Assistant Provincial Commissioner for the Area welcomed those present, Discussion on group problems and plans for next year's Camporee, a luncheon at the High School, addresses by Reeye J.. Ferrier and Doug Thompson, Chairman of the local group Conmittee and other items were scheduled during the day. Campfire started at 7 P.M. in the evening and concluded at 9 P.M. Scout- ers met in the Community Church Hall at 9 P.M, on Sunday evening for further conference, Church Parade to St.Martin's Roman Catholic Church was held at 8:15 A.M, Sunday morning and a "Scout!s Own" service conducted by Rev. J.Raymond Anderson was held in the High School. At 10 A.M, the group was taken on a conducted tour of the Mill, returning to the High School for closing ceremonies. Taking part in the Conference were Sam Baxter of Marathon, Assistant Provincial Commissioner of the Area; Bob Schultz, Com missioner of Nipigon District; Ki Zrobach of the Kenogamisis (Geraldton) District and R. Wills, Commissioner of the Pic River District. A hearty vote of thanks was extended to all those who billeted the visitors. KIWANIS CLUB HALOWE'EN PARTIES Following is the schedule for the various events planned for different age: groups on Hallowe'en, The first party (up to and inoludies nine years of age) will be held in the High School at 6:30.P.M,. Prizes for costumes will be as follows:-- (a) Tramp - (b) Clown - (c) IV and Comic Strip Character - also for the most original in each group. .There will also be races. for boys. and girls in each group from three to nine years with prizes. Treats will be distributed to children on the way out. The Nine to Thirteen Year group are asked to meet at the C.P.R, Station, (Cont'd P..2) 4 BAY
