TERRACE Bay News" Authorized as Circulation Terrace Bay & Schreiber A tL OS EN ere tema eee At a special meeting of the Township Coun- cil on September 21st it was decided to form a committee of Council to be named "Commerce Committee", Eventually this committee will perform the duties normally carried out by a.Chamber of Commerce, In its formative stages for a period of approximately two years, the Town- ship will help, to a limited extent, finan- cially and will also act in an advisory and auditing capacity, At the end of two years the committee will be expected to transform into a separately constituted Chamber of Commerce, A By-Law is being prepared to authorize the financial arrangements. 'The following have been invited by the Town Council to serve on this committee: J, Adamo, J, Caccamo, R. Lindberg, M. Paget and F, Soughton; A meeting to discuss the functions of this committee with the above individuals was held on September 27th with Reeve J.A. Ferrier and Mr. Des. Evans-Smith, Chairman of the Plan- ning and Development. Committee, This forward looking step by the Town Council will no doubt prove extremely advan- tageous to the Town of Terrace Bay for, as each year passes the town is. becoming more an urban community and, with the inception of the Trans-Canada Highway on-our front door, we can expect much more development. Safety Association was held in the Prince Arthur Hotel, Port Arthur, Ontario. Representatives from the Terrace: Bay Mill who attended this meeting included Mr. R,G, Shirriff, Mill Manager, Ernie Rowson, Joe Ruzyski and V. Thompson. Thirty-eight delegates from the ten Pulp & Paper Mills in Northwestern Ontario were present. j Papers deaiing; with the various aspects of safety were presented to the delegates. The readers of this paper, we believe, will appreciate the opportunity to have available the information contained in the attached pamphlet. EMBS OF KIMBERLY-CLARK TERRACE BAY MILL INCREASE DAILY BENEFITS At a meeting of the EMBS directors on September 23, revisions to clause 22 of the Society's By-Law were adopted. Daily benefits for each week day lost for a period not ex- ceeding 26 weeks shall be paid at the follow- ing rates for sickness and accident: . Three dollars and fifty cents ($3, 50) for the first twenty-four (24) disability days. Seven dollars ($7.00) the next twenty-fou (24) disability days. Eight dollars and fifty cents ($8,50) for any subsequent continuous disability days. This new clause incorporates two new important changes:- 1. Sundays will be counted in establishing claims for sickness benefits. (No daily benefits will be paid for Sundays) 2. Daily benefits will be increased by $1.50 (from $7.00 to $8.50) after a total of 48 disability days has elapsed. Full details of this liberalized clause should 'be obtained from the directors of the Society or may be secured from the bulletin -- board at the mill, ?
