"TERRACE BAy News : Circulation Terrace Bay & Schreiber OPEN NIGHT IN SCHOOLS THIS WEEK Parents night will be held in the Public School on Wednesday, March 16th from 7,00 - to 9.30 pom. Teachers will be in the class- rooms to meet the parents and discuss matters of mutual interest and pupils work will be on display. At 8.00 pem. a film entitled "From Ten to Twelve" will be shown in the Grade 8 class room. This film, which is full colour, studies the emotional and physical develop- ment of children from ten to twelve years. The children of one family are depicted in various situations in the home, at school and in group play, and it is noted that much of their conflicting behaviour at this age is actually a normal part of the growing process, Lunch will be served during the evening and everyone is welcome. Schreiber Public School supporters are invited to attend "Open House" on Friday, March 18th from 7 to 9 p.m. when they will have an opportunity to discuss their prob- lems with the teachers, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WIN CURLING BONSPIEL On Saturday and Sunday, March 12th and 13th, fourteen rinks from Terrace Bay and Marathon took part in an: Inter-School Bon- spiel, The Terrace Bay rink scipped by: Doug. Moore with David Wheeler, "arlene Heinrich and Ruth Thorsteinson led the field. The final game was an up-hill climb for Doug and his team wmtas as Wayne Lillie and his Marathon team had them down 6=1 in the 5th end, Terrace Bay counted 1 in the 6th, 1 in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, Marathon counted 1 in the 9th, making the score 7 to 5 for Lillie with Doug having last rock coming home. He played beautifully for a raise take-out to count 3 and win 8 to 7, Bill Garvin and his team of Peggy Cavan- augh, Bob Hopper and Janice Coe also played in the finals of the second event and won the runner-up prize, The High School Curling Committee of Bill ~ Colbourne, Mary Ellen Reynolds, Pat Romaniuk, Roddy Thompson, Ruth Thorsteinson and Terry Hall are to be congratulated on a: job well done. Other curlers who helped organize this - event were Ken Johnson, Men's Curling Club, Kay Thorsteinson and Dodie Burnside of the Ladies Curling Club who arranged lunch. and refreshments. This | may be the year championship in these | divisions moves out of the Lakehead for the |; first time. Hockey fans all along the North Shore | will wish the players the best of luck in their bid for a Thunder Bay hockey champion- | ship. | ! { MARATHON 5 SUPERIORS 4 IN FINAL GAME n Tuesday night in Marathon the Mercuries came through with a win to end the N.S.H.L. | finals, The Mercuries and Superiors put on a real exhibition of good fast hockey in this 7th and final game, before a crowd of over a} thousand spectators, For the Mercs, Charyna was the big gun | with three goals; Kapitan and Amadeo scored ; singles, For the Sups, Marvin Osmar came through with a terrific game scoring three goals, and Dave Whalen picked up Sups fourth | goal, There were only three penalties in the | game. Congratulations to the Marathon Mercuries for again winning the North Shore Inter- mediate Championship. -The Mercuries and Superiors played typical North Shore play-off hockey in this series. Marathon won four games and tied one.. Superiors won two and tied one, All the games were close with no more than a three goal spread in any game; most games ending with a one goal margin, The Superiors are to be congratulated also for putting up a real battle in the play-offs Playing Coach, Dave Whalen, and all his team mates did a terrific job this season, They had tough luck with injuries toward the end of the regular schedule causing them to slip in the semi-finals and finals, Hockey fans in Terrace Bay, we believe, are well satis- fied with the showing of the team this season, They gave the fans some thrilling hockey right to the last game. Another N.S.H.L.. season is over - the Terrace Lay Superiors and their supporters will have to wait for next year, in the meantime, best of luck to the Marathon Merc- uries in the hockey play-offs against the.
