SCOUT_NEWS BLACK BEAR "BANTER" The meeting of Thursday February 11th opened at 6:30 with 18 boys and six leaders in attendance, The colour party was formed by the Eagle Patrol. The boys did a few of the second class exercises and some signalling after which all Scouts joined in a game "Capture King Charles", The "emergency" for the week was to rescue a boy with a broken leg and give first aid. A successful meeting was adjourned at 8:30. On Sunday, a week or so ago, some of the Scouts of the Black Bear troop went on a hike accompanied by a Scout Leader. It was a perfect day for such a venture and it proved quite a success. Following the ex- pedition, Jackie Crandlemire (age 14 years) penned his version of the trip, Hee a 18. THE HIKE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MISSED At approximately 1:30 a happy ninesome left the Post Office on a hike that should not have been missed, In single file our. group hiked west to the top of the first hill beyond the bridge. With snowshoes well secured we took to the bush. While taking turns breaking trail we decided to bave names for these according to their abil- ity. Jack C. was given the name "gumshoe" because he was slow and he had trouble with his snowshoes, Lorne T's name was "snurttle" because he was always lagging behind, John R's name was "Johnny Longway" because he always took the longway. Fredie E's name was "wrong way Fred" because he was always going in the wrong direction. Derek W's name was "mouse" because of previous naming. Brian H's was "toe Hu" because his foot kept getting caught in his snowshoe. Mike S was Called "poky" because he was the slowest and he always had trouble with his snowshoes, Then we saw mouse, partridge, weasel, rabbit and fox tracks, We saw where a weasel had chased a partridge and where it took off, Then we came to a beaver dam, He had chopped down about twenty trees, There was a hole in the ice where he went into his home. Then we put the fire out and left for home. We reached the highway about six o!clock. Four of us waited for the slow pokes about five minutes then walked along the highway and decided to sing songs then Scouter Jim S. left us and the rest of us broke off at the Rec. Flower girl was Terrie Lee Weaver and Best Man was Allan Fava of Hornepayne. Ushers were Peter Kane of Hornepayne, Al Regis of Terrace Bay and Roger Lalonde of Capreol. A wedding breakfast.was held in the Schrei- ber Hotel for sixty-five guests, Mrs. J. Corbett was dining room hostess and servitors were Misses Sheila Weaver, Marian Harris and Mesdames J.Thrower and R,Lamoureux. T.Fenlon was Master of Ceremonies and Father Cano said Grace, A reception was held at the home of Mr, & Mrs. J.Kosticki, the wedding party receiving the guests, The tea table was presided over by Mesdames H.Prescott, R. Weaver, D.Moore and J.McCouan, Dining room hostess was Mrs, W.Weaver and serving were Gail Lidkea, Sheila Weaver, Marian Harris and Lorraine Nesbitt. In charge of kitchen arrangements were Mesdames A.Morris, J,A.Whent, A,Moorey and A,Welbourne, The bride and groom left for a honeymoon to be spent in 1 Montreal and other .Eastern points. Upon their return they will reside in Foleyet, Ontario, The 8th Arrual Northwestern Ontario Youth Conference will be held this year on April | _ 22nd in Marathon, Ontario. Once again a "Miss Teen Queen Contest" will be a feature of the Conference with each Contestants will be judged on both appearance and talent, Other points are personality, confidence, voice, smile, figure, carriage, posture, walk, poise, hair, beauty and make-up, In addition to the Teen Queen, two Prin- cesses will be chosen to reign with the Queen at the Coronation Ceremony.
