' to anyone, nF nnn etal Sei setesrenenegseeneinpahshsaguenesiinninatinisommenmaisansmn KIWANIS HONOUR GOVERNOR NORM HARRISON On Saturday, October 24th, our local Kiwanis Club was honoured by the visit of Norm Harrison, Governor of Western Canada Division, This being a special occasion, the Kiwanis members invited their wives to attend and presented each with a rose bud corsage as a special mark of esteem, The evening was divided into two occasions, a business supper meeting at the hotel and a social gathering in the Curling Club Lounge, At the supper meeting, Governor Norm in- ducted Al Chapman into the Club and gave a brief picture of the size and efficiency of the Kiwanis movement, Secretary Treasurer, Des Evans~Smith was the Master of Ceremonies and kept the spirits of all present in a lighter vein with his inimitable sense of English humour. The meeting adjourned to reconvene an hour later in the Curling Club Lounge where two hours of games, dancing and singing were | terminated by a bachelor lunch which the ladies found enjoyable, if not fancy. The ladies declared the evening a com- plete success and Governor Norm thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Terrace Bay. COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES HELD IN HIGH SCHOOL On Thursday, October 22nd parents of | students and interested friends attended the Terrace Bay High School's Annual Commence- ment Exercises held in the Auditorium. Baskets of Bronze and Gold Chrysanthemums ~ enhanced the stage on which was also display- ed the shining Trophies and Cups to be presented during the evening. Chairman of the Board, Mr. J. L. Wade, acted as Chairman for the evening and wel- comed those present. The invocation was delivered by Mr. W.M, Miller and Darlene Gombola accompanied the singing of 0 Canada and God Save The Queen, ; In his report Mr. D,A, Locking, Principal, mentioned the excellent record some former students of Terrace Bay High are making -- | continuing their education elsewhere----going | from a small school, with resulting change of teachers and timetables, etc., and still keeping up with the best students in larger t. schools. While touching on Pn ri ig discipline he also noted that attend- ing the Commencement Exercises were probably not the ones who should hear his remarks as, by their attendance at such an affair, they indicated they were the type of parents who were vitally interested in their children and that it was usually in homes where parents show little interest that disciplin- ary problems become evident, Graduation Diplomas (Grade X11) were presented by Mr. P. Gombola, assisted by Mr. W. Miller and Mr. P. Saunders to: Eugene Adamo, Myrna Crandlemire, Frank Ginn, Sandra Leigh Locking, Betty MacFadyen, Sandra Phillips and Norma Schock. Those presented with Intermediate Certificates were: Donna Adamo, Donna Brearley, William Garvin, Edith 'Adamo, Beverly Louk, Maryellen Reynolds, Peggy Cavanaugh, Darlene Gombola, Vincent McInnes, Ronald:Schock, Annette Boudreau, William Colborne, Joan Hopper, Sharlene Pineault and Janet Wills. At this point in the program a group of ten High School boys presented two very pleasing vocal selections - one sung in Latin, and accompanied at the piano by Sharon Leigh Locking. Each year the students obtaining the high- est percentage on the June examinations are declared the winners of the Proficiency Shields and this year Peggy Shirriff came first in Grade 1X with 89.9%; Bill Colborne was high in Grade X with 91.1%; Larry Drif- field took the honours in (Cont'd on Pg.4)
