Mr, J. A. Ferrier, Plant Engineer, opened the proceedings with words of welcome to all | present; included in the group were all the trainees at present in the Trades Course, Also present were members of the Trade Advisory Council and many other guests, Herman Roberts, Trades Supervisor, was the Chairman for the evening's proceedings, i Don Stewart, the Trade Trainer then intro- ; duced the guest speaker, Mr. D.C, McNeill, Director of Apprenticeship, Department of Labour, Ontario Provincial Government, Mr. D.C, McNeill, as a former electrician himself, gave the audience a very good history; of the various trades and said how important the trades are in the economic life of Canada, He then presented the Ontario Department of Labour Journeyman! s: Certificates to Ed and Ken, It is significant that' this is the first ; time graduates of the Kimberly-Clark Trade - Trainee program in' Terrace Bay have received certificates from ithe Department of Labour. Mr. Jack Hesselman, Staff Supervisor, ' Trade: Training, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Neenah, Wisconsin, then presented to each graduate a Trade Manual from the Kimberly- Clark Corporation, This presentation is customary for all Kimberly-Clark graduates, Mr. Hesselman stated that, including Ken and Ed, there are over three hundred Kimberly- ' Clark trade trainee graduates, i Mr. R. G, Shirriff, Mill Manager, presented the two graduates with their Kimberly-Clark Trade Trainee Certificates, He congratulated the men on successfully completing the course and emphasized the importance of continuing to learn more about their chosen trade, Ken Turner, on behalf of himself ard Ed Belliveau, thanked all those at the Terrace Bay mill, who had. helped them during the three year course, Ken stated that from Trade Train- er, Don Stewart, to all the tradesmen in the mill, the co-operation they had both received was of the best and that Ed and he would carry on in the trade: by following the excellent example of former trainees, H, Roberts, Chairman, added his congratu- lations to the graduates and thanked all concerned for contributing to a very success- ful graduation dinner, Ed Belliveau and Ken Turner then received congratulations from all those present. TWIN-TOWN CONCERT BAND TO HOLD FIRST PRACTICE A first practice of the projected Schreiber-Terrace Bay Band has been called for 7,30 P,M., on Wednesday, October 7th, in the Curling Lounge of the Recreation Centre, Any person with previous band experience, and other interested musicians are urged to come to this rehearsal, Complete sets of band books have been obtained and are now ready for distribution. If any prospective band member wishes a copy of the music for any instrument, these can be obtained by phoning W, F, Colborne at his home (3756) or at the Public School (3321). The first music to be used by the band is not difficult, but is suitable for marching and light concerts, Some instruments will be available at the practice, but bandsmen are urged to bring their own plus any folding music stands, Mr. A, Hannula of Nipigon, who is present- ly stationed in Rossport, has offered to act as director of the band at least until the organization is completed and sponsorship of the band is arranged. Don't forget the time of the first rehear- Sal -- Wednesday, October 7th at 7.30 P.M., in the Curling Lounge of the Recreation Centre, DISTRICT CUB AND SCOUT LEADERS AT LOCAL CAMP Last week-end Cub and Scout leaders from Manitouwadge, Marathon, Schreiber and Terrace Bay spent a busy two days training at the Terrace Bay Scout Camp site on White Sand Lake, : Twenty-two Cub Leaders and eleven Scout Leaders took part in these courses and the training team also came great distances to assist. Mr. Alex Cox, Field Commissioner from Winnipeg, was in charge of the Scout Course and ably assisted by Horace Franks of Manitou wadge and our own Bill Megraw. Sam Baxter, District Commissioner, was in charge of the Cub Leaders Course. His staff consisted of Mr. J, F. Spittlehouse, Assist- ant Provincial Commissioner of Port Arthur, Miss Verna McKercher, Mrs, Francis Tamblin, Commissioners of Port Arthur and Roland Wills Assistant District Commissioner, Local leaders taking part in the courses wee: J. Shivas, S. Ballentyne, G. Kelly, G. Cran- dlemire, S, Naylor and B, MacDonald on the Scout Course and E. Belliveau, J, West, H, Smith, E, Pineault and R. Slattery on the Cub Leaders Course, P, Heenan, B, Hopper and Fred Anderson were the hard working service Scouts.
