Miss Ruth Priske from Bourlamaque, P.Q., will teach Grade 4 and part Grade 5. She is a graduate of Teachers! College at North Bay, has a Home Economics Course and taught in Sudbury last year. Mr. Kenney took a seminar course in Education Measurements at Queens University during the summer, PUBLIC SCHOOL OPENS WITH RECORD ENROLMENT With an increase of one in the teaching staff, the Terrace Bay Public School re-opened this week with a record enrolment of over 290, Pre-registration showed up- wards of 32 admissions to the kindergarten which will be presided over this year by Miss Ellen Ceasar who taught in the Owen Sound system last year. Miss Marjorie Baker will once again capably handle the unusually large Primary Grade which will be the largest Miss Baker's father this year commences his new appointment as principal of the Timmins High and Vocational School, one of the largest institutions of its kind in the province. Grade Two will have Miss R, Leschuk this year. Last year Miss Leschuk taught Grade Three and proved to be a most popular and effective teacher. A newcomer to Terrace Pay, will be the Grade Four teacher, Miss Elizabeth Berry, of Sarnia. Last year Miss Berry taught at Ross- port so she is familiar with the North Shore. Grade Three will be handled by Miss Alvera Wood who this year moves down from Grade Four. Mrs, N, Peters will be back again in the Grade Five, the same grade that she taught last year, and Mrs. Gladys Colborne, Vol. 2, No. 36 September 10, 1959, will be in charge of Grade Six. Mr. B. L. Brandon has come from the Grade Bend Public School to be assistant to the principal and teach the Grade Seven class. Mr. Brandon is married and has a five month old son, The principal, Mr. W. F. Colborne, will teach the Grade Eight class. This will be the first year that the Terrace Bay Public School will have no compound grades. There will be a teacher in charge of each grade from Kindergarten through to the entrance to High School, A programme of renovation and repainting has been completed by. the Board and the school premises are in excellent condition to start the fall tern. CIVIC IMPROVEMENTS STREET PAVING SCHEDULED FOR THIS WEEK Hacquoil Construction will begin paving Lakeview Drive, Fort Garry Road, Kenogami Road and Pine Crescent by Friday of this week, In addition this fall, weather per- mitting, it is planned to oil surface Lakeview west, Cartier and Superior. A cement walk is complete between the bank and Waghorn's Pharmacy on Simcoe Plaza, Landscaping of the boulevard area in this locality is progressing satisfactorily. Other Projects: The Kimberly-Clark Pulp & Paper Co., have partially completed landscaping of the Terrace Bay Hospital grounds, which is a welcomed town project. An excellent job of re-locating the parking area at the Kimberly--Clark Mill has been done, This area is complete with curbs and modernistic lighting standards. The mill road will be oil surfaced from the rail- road crossing into the mill. Landscaping at the mill will be carried out next year. The Terrace Bay Horticultural Society will landscape the triangle area immediately in front of the Community Church, The Terrace Bay Enterprises Garage have almost completed a re-location of their gas pumps. This has. included a nice landscaping | job on a wide boulevard connecting it with | the highway. Kimberly-Clark have some plans for improvements on the lakeside of the Hotel Terrace, This has involved a lot of under- brushing and in. the future topsoil will be brought in and over a period of a few years this particular area will be completed. We understand the Town is interested in purchasing property from Kimberly-Clark to develop Lakeview Drive as a crescent at the west end connecting it with Superior. Another summer is rapidly coming to an end; from the above brief notes it becomes | obvious that a great deal of work has been done, Highway 17 through town is scheduled | to be paved this month and will add immensely to the general improvements already| made.
