TERRACE SUCCUMBS TO DOUBLE DEFEATS OF 2-1, 13-1, AS EAST ENDS MAKE SWEEP WITH HOMER BARRAGE The Fort William East Ends behind brilliant pitching efforts and tre- mendous hitting power made their presence known in Terrace as they swept both ends of a double header from the T,B.ers by scores of 2-1 and 13-1, The results thus increased the East Enders first place margin and. served to drop the Terrace team into 4th position, Sunday's opening game featured a stunning mound duel between Terrace's Jim Moro and' the Hast Ends bespectaclel little lefthander Ron Miki, However, it was big Ed Cox of the E, E, who stole the limelight as his team counted-2 runs as a result of his 2 run homer after Berglund had singled in the lst, A light-hitting Terrace team' could muster but one run and this came-when Marvin Osmar singled in the 5th (for the only Terrace hit), advanced on a walk and scored as a result of 2 errors by first baseman Berglund of the East Ends, Miki hurled a brilliant one-hitter as he struck out 9 and walked only one; ~ Sunday's second game proved to be-a real let- down as the powerful E, E,ers broke lose to thor- oughly trample the Terrace team which started the second game with an. almost untried line-up of 2nd stringers, The double HE, Men scored 3 runs in the 1st as Caruso walked and scored on an error, Davey singled and was batted in by Marcon, and Cox getting on thru a fielder's choice and in turn being singled-in by Seagris, In the 2nd they garnered 4 more as Kruppa singled and scored on an error, Caruso singled and scored on Berglund's hit with Davey scoring on an error, as Berglund scored on Cox's single, Tait then upped the count to € - 0 in the 4th as he connected for a 315 ft, homer over the left field fence, Cox then led off the 5th with his 2nd homer of the day, Marcon later scored after reaching lst on an error as he stole home, Kruppa then singled in Seagris wha had reached lst on an error, Tait then doubled and scored on an error to up the count to 12-0, The E, Eers then finished their scoring for. the .day as Cox ended the day as he had started with a homerun this one being a tremendous towering 350 foot hit to direct centre, Terrace 'could muster but one run in the last inning, as Stachiw walked, advanced on a wild pitch and a single, and then stole home, This thus capped off a lacklustre effort by a slow- footed Terrace team and sent a pro-Terrace crowd home muttering to itself and thoroughly disappoint-- ed, Baseball Banters: It is doubtful that the performance made by the East Ends! Ed Cox will ever be seen again or equalled in these parts, The big muscular centrefielder was nothing short of spectacular at the plate as he proceeded to propel 3 balls right out of the park and garnered 6 hits for 7 official times at bat, It is rumoured that when he connected for his final homer the wallop of the bat could be heard in Schreiber,, .--. For Terrace it wes again the same old story. no hits, no runs,,.. 0.0 in the) 2nd same the entire Terrace team performed as though each one of the players was packing around a 100 1b, weight, as many fly-balls were mis- judged and errors were many, It appeared as if everyone was in a daze or fog,.... At the plate, the batters would make a feeble swing, strike out, and it seemed, reluctantly sit. down on the bench, There was definitely no spirit,or fight.......the only shining) lagae in a dull Terrace effort was the one man fight and performance put on by Jim Moro, Jim pitched his heart out on the mound in the lst game and with any kind of hitting support could have easily won the game, In the 2nd his fielding at first base with 2 beautiful pick-ups of bad throws was truly steady and cut down the score from reaching higher proportions,,......Marvin Osmar and Ray Stachiw broke out of their batting slumps on Sunday as they each garnered a hit, Stachiw's "being a Chinese double....., The final putout at lst base was definitely a bad and question--- able decision, It was obvious to everyone that the East Ends! firstbaseman's foot was off lst base by at least a good 9 inches.,.. Some of the base-running (whenever Terrace managed to get a man on) was not even fool- hardy, it was just plain idiotic,....The only consolation or plaudit which can be made to the team is that their defensive play in the lst game was definitely good......The crowd was noticeably less Sunday, with the weather being nicer than the previous 2 double headers, Is it because the novelty of Sunday baseball is wearing off so soon or are the fans tiring already of watching a "No-Hit" club?,) ic lage Accolades to the East Ends Manager, Harold Assano for his sportsmanship on the field.,... Terrace has how signed 2 new pitchers, One is Manager Jack Thomas's son Kit and theother a Winnipegger by the name of Gerry Curl, Kit is. reputed to be a good hurler while Curl has had good recommendations, Time will tell, Perhaps this week-end,....... This week-end the T, Bers again make their appearance at the Lakehead. On Saturday nite at 6:45 in McKellar Park they face.the Westfort Albions while on Sunday at 1:45 they take on the 2nd place.
