KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS OBSERVE BROTHERHOOD WEEK On February 28th in St, Martin's Church Hall, Terrace Bay, following a reg- ular St. Edward's Council Knights of Col- umbus meeting, a special Brotherhood week programme was arranged. Special guests at this programme were V. Thompson, Secretary of the Schreiber ~ Terrace Bay Brotherhood Week Committee; F. Ginn - representative of the Canadian Legion; I. Bailey - rep- resentative of Kinsmen; P. Boudreau and E, Rowson -' representing the Kiwanis; E, Mail- lette - representing Loyal Order of Moose; Neil Ross - representing. the Lions; R.Wills representing the Masonic Lodge; R. Skinner - representing the Independent Order of Oddfellows; and Dr. A. Lavender of Terrace Bay, sat at the head table, A. Valiquette who was the Knights of Columbus represen- tative on the Brotherhood Committee was also present, The Chairman of the programme J, McIsaac of Schreiber introduced the guests. He was flanked by Rev. Father Gallagher of St. Martin's Church and A, Cadieux, Grand Knight of St. Edward's Council. Past Grand Knight P,. J. Syvitski introduced the guest speaker, the Reverend Father G. Father Kelly displayed an uncompromising attitude of conviction. He gave a clear picture of the country of Japan and it's people. He noted that though China was forbidden to outsiders it's predicament was even worse than Japan. "Janan's basic trouble", he stated, "was overpopulation; 90,000, 000 people in an area much smaller than Ontario," He continued, "that we must live Brotherhood, we must do. our best to accept the Orientals in our country." He "if we don't, the day may come when their superior numbers intight overrun our sparsely populated country." Following a break for coffee and doughnuts he continued on with a showimg of slides on "Life in Japan." This showing was accompanied by a running commentary, giving him an opportunity to display his ready wit. He was thanked by V. Thompson on behalf of the Brotherhood week Committee, Dr. Lavonder took the opportunity to remind the gathering that the talk was most timely in connection with Brotherhood Week and that we must seriously consider the facts given by Father Kelly, -- ees The regular monthly meeting will be held on Sunday, March 10th following evening devotions.
