Volume 7 No, 10 Pee NIP NIPIGON « BRING OW MARATHON BG « It's Terrace Bay versus Mare athon for the playoff championship folks, By virtue of a hard fought 7-6 win over Nipigon Tuesday night, the Superiors earned the other finals berth. This is the first time, by the way, a Terrace Bay team ever reached the final playoff series of the N.S.H.L., so let's give the Sup- eriors a big pat on the back for a job well done; may they continue their winning ways against the Mercuries starting tonight at Marathon, Getting back to Tuesday's game, as expected it was a spine-tingler, Once again we had a bad first period and it was Nipigon 2-0 going into the second stanza. Goals by Marv Osmar and Whalen tied the game and set the stage for a wild and woolly third period. Nine goals were scored in that third period and though the Superiors enjoyed a 6-3 lead at one time, the out- come wasn't settled until the final bell rang. It was a long, high drive from just inside the blue line by Desrosiers that eventually was the winning goal, From top to bottom the Superiors played well with the exception of some of the first period. Five men (cont'd next col.) March 7, 1957. (cont'd from prev. col.) did the scoring and the entire team played as if they would accept nothing less than victory. To Nipigon's credit, they went down fighting never giving up. With 30 seconds remaining they rapped in their 6th goal and came far too close to tying the local six during the last few seconds. Their big men again were Ward, Swan, Manilla and Ruth,, Ward and Swan played the entire game once more while Manilla rested only a few minutes, While 7 shots slipped past Ruth, he made many saves that bordered on robbery, It was a fitting climax to the series between these two fine teams, It was a great game to win, and a tough one to lose, but then someone has to lose, Now it's Marathon -- need we say more? o-0-o anR SUE Ath POR MARATHON SERIES Mar. 7, Thurs, at Marathon PLAYOFF DATES FOR MARATHON SERIES .
