Ua Git OW se i are ca a last Sunday (February 10th) to see our 138 youngsters in action. Starting at. 2 o'clock, the programme got underway with our 29 Flyweights (5 to 7 years) coached by Steve Brend to open the "show", This was followed by Ron Slattery and Ernie Kettle!ts Canadians meeting Harold Hall and Joe Cavanaugh's Maple Leafs, and also Hec, McLeod and Les Pryor's Bruins meeting Ken MacLeod and Scott Mann's Black Hawks in the PeeWee division of 68 players. The PeeWee All-Stars for out- side competition are coached by Con, MacDonald, Then followed Jim MacDonald's Bantams of 24 players, The afternoon of hockey concluded with Harl Knight's High School team meeting the Schreiber High School. Those near 400 people who had the privilege of seeing the 138 youngsters present a series of exhibition periods and a High School schedule game were certainly treated to a fine display of hockey, Their games were "friendly, hard, strong, rugged and clean", For some, the only "big time" games they ever saw were those with the Terrace Bay Superiors at home, and it was evident that the styles of some of the Inter- mediates are being copied. These youngsters are proving their worth to this sports-minded community, and should they continue in their love of our national winter sport, there is no doubt that they will branch out only to bring added honours to their home town and much pride to their leaders, Their - Chairman and coaches are doing a marvel- ous job in welding them into "hockey greats of to-morrow", But they are like captains of ships unable to steer to their destination without crews. Parents and families of these youngsters par- ticularly, and the community as a whole should all put our "shoulders to the wheel" to ease the burden of these monitors, thereby encouraging our youth to higher goals in their hockey careers. Jim Cumming was the lucky winner of the Attendance Prize which was drawn by Peter E. Mazza, Governor of the North Shore Hockey League, Smiling Jack Little was again at the door to give away numbered programmes in his collection of 942207.
