RALLY DOWNS GERALDTON 6-2 A surpriseeels stedine dere tdtcn six almost upset 'the Superiors Sunday after- noon in a very clean game, It was. a slow affair until Terrace Bay found 'themselves on the short end of a 2-1 score midway through the final period. _ Then whalen rapped a sizzler past their goalie, who until that time was a pillar of strength, and the rout was on, Moro came through at the 13,30. mark with one of his patented solo efforts to break the deadlock, and then the big production line took over. First it was Whalen, then Marv. Osmar and then Whalen again to put the game beyond Geraldton's reach, Terrace Bay had plenty of good scoring opportunities in the first two periods, but just couldn't find the net, Thompson, the visitors goalie repeatedly outguessed our snipers, However, our boys.were the Superiors of old in the third period, and then there was no denying them Whalen had another good day netting 3 goals, while Moro, Maurice Osmar and Marv. Osmar each got one. The fortunes of Terrace Bay rest squarely on the shoulders of these 4 men, and they are coming through in great style. It is a pleasure to watch them perform and not enough can be said about them. PRODUCTION LINE PRODUCES 9-6 WIN OVER RED_ROCK In a free scoring game in the local Arena Saturday night, Terrace Bay out- scored Red Rock 9-6, A big third period which netted the Superiors 6 goals settled the issue after the Royals threw a big scare into the local six, Whatever chance Red Rock. had of winning went out the window when, in the third period, they received 2 game mis- conduct penalties and 1 match misconduct, Until that time they gave the Superiors all they could handle and then some. Thanks to Weaver's great goal tend- ing the first period ended 1-1 as time and time again he kicked out shots that were labeled goals, The two teams traded 2 goals in the second period, and then the Superiors exploded for 6 big goals (cont'd, next colum) 'gets the team going, Pid, THTSSN-THAT Jonttd, from x ¢ Following i is the wnofiicicl | &..1.L, standings. . os or es Marathon SEI Son LC at Tereace-Hay 1h & L--R9 Nipigon - 14.) 20 22 Red Rock» Pens ae a9 Geraldton 3 6 Schreiber 2 ae a 5 The Coal bits play two games during the next week ant. then Oa a well deserved week's rest. : Thursday, January 24th at Schreiber Sunday, January 27th at Fort William Saturday, February 2nd . . SUPERIORS BOW TO MERCURIES bak Last Thursday night before a near sella out crowd in the Marathon arena, Terrace Bay's undermanned Superiors dropped their 4th game of the season, losing. to Marathon 6-4, The Superiors led only once in this game, that being in the second period by a 3-2 score, Marathon led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 4=3 'going into the final period, The powerful, smooth passing Mercuries continually kept the pressure on the Superior defense as they controlled the play most of the time. However, they couldn't stop our big line, but wfort- unately, that terrific line wasn't enough, Marv. Osmar had 2 goals while Whalen and Maurice Osmar got the other two, For a few brief minutes it looked as if our three man offense might upset the Mercuries, but one good line cannot produce as much as three balanced lines, and that just about sums up Terrace Bay's misfortunes down at Marathon, To beat Marathon anytime is a large order, and to try and defeat them with only one line makes the order bigger.
