FLUKE GOAL GIVES MARATHON "ITE The two giants of the North Shore Hockey League squared off in our Arena Tuesday night, and after 60 minutes of tremendous hockey plus a 10 minute over- time the game ended in a 5-5 tie. . For the Superiors, it was a bitter .pill to swallow as they held the lead on,...... _4 different oetasions, only to see the Marathon! Club tie the Scores. Terrace Bay had the game all wrapped apran regulation time, but, unfortunately, a hockey game is never over until 60 minutes of hockey have been played, Cox, a fine player always, but a great player against the Superiors saved the game for the Mercuries, Twice . in the last: 3 minutes he scored goals to tie the game, the second one literally snatching victory from Terrace Bay's grasp. With just 27 seconds left in -the game, he shot the puck from the corner behind Terrace Bay's net and somewhere along the way, the puck slithered off a Superior's skate past Weaver into the net. So, in one split second, 594 minutes eL.good hockey went down the drain all because of a fluke, For the Superiors, all played a good game with Marv. Osmar, Moro, Hansen and Weaver standing out oven the others, Coax was the hero, or villain depending on how you look at it for siya esdia along with Charyna and LeBlanc, The score should have read 3-2 for the Superiors, but it didn't so there's . not much sense fretting over the outcome, _The crowd of 707 witnessed one of the 'finest, if not the best, hockey games ever played in Terrace Bay, and when these two teams face each other, watch out, The Superiors don'thave to take a backseat (cont'd, page 7) are against it. 'THIS-N-THAT Well, we certainly saw some truly fine hockey in our Arena over the past week, The Superiors have been under- manned due to sickness and injuries, 'but never did they let the opvosition's advantage .in manpower get the best of them,-. These 4 and the entire team deserve one big pat on the back for their efforts, Tonight they play at Schreiber, and then it's a 9 day rest, and a welcome one to be sure, from league activity. Only game to be played during that layoff will be a return game with the Fort William Beavers at the Fort William Gardens this coming Sunday. With one month!s play remaining on the schedule, the Superiors appear to be in their best shape of the season, "ixcept for Stachiw the team will be in good health, and with a healthy squad for the remaining games the Superiors should have no trouble finishing in second place at '- least, xan Terrace Bay is still in a first place "tie, but Marathon has.3 games to catch up and we can't see anybody capable of knock- ing them off, except the Superiors, and we only have 2 games remaining with the Mereuries.
