CURLING CLUB NEWS The Annual meeting was. held 'dees night October 15th in the Curling Club lounge with only 17 members present, Curly , Hale. presiding. At this meeting it was "decided to have the same kind of curling as last season, that is squad curling with enough divisions to include all rinks. "At the end of squad curling the team with the most points will be club champion, Then all points will be discarded anda, double round robin will decide the division trophies. Dues will be $20.00 per annum for club membership $10.00 for an associate membership, and $15,00 fora Jr. member- ship curling in Senior competition. Score cards will be used again this year the same as last year. Other important busi- ness discussed included the mixed Bonspiel at the beginning of the season, the playing of games as scheduled by the draw master and the allocation of lockers for the coming season. It was decided that a mixed Bon- spiel will be held around the end of this month with the LongLac Trophy at stake, Prizes will be turkeys and. trophy for the winners and chickens for runnerup prize. An entry fee of $1.00 per person will be charged. Rinks shall be composed of two men and two ladies, the skip being aman, third, a lady, second a man, lead a lady. No players will be allowed to change positions once the bonspiel starts, Due to the difficulties faced by the draw master when scheduled games are post- poned the. meeting passed a motion that all games will be played as scheduled or before the scheduled time if the game can't be played as scheduled. No games will be postponed, if they are the rink seeking postponement will forfeit points. This will ensure all games will be finished on time and allow the draw master time to post the new draw before the beginning of the new draw, and allow time for draw sheet corrections if neccessary. All members having locks on lockers are asked to remove the same before Oct. 26th, This is necessary in order to allocate lockers for the new season and also because some changes ave being made in the locker room, If the locksare not removed by Oct. 26th they' will be removed by the club. Considerable discussion took place re- garding the offering of prizes to the winners of each division at the end of the second and fourth rounds, It was felt by some that by offering prizes more interest might develop and also releive the monotony as the season progresses, The executive of the club will investigate the possibilities of doing this. Plans will also be made to run a club bonspiel in the middle of the season. DD. e Paci ee SHOTS FROM THE HACK Tuesday morning freezing operations in the curling rink commenced. ~The~pre= liminary lowering of temperatures will _ take two or three days before flooding is started. This will insure a good solid sheet of ice for each rink during the coming season, This is accomplished by circulating a brine solution, maintained at a low temperature of about 18°F through the brine pipes in the curling rink proper. This will cool the sand surround= ing the brine pipes until it is frozen solid after which ice will be made. by flooding on the top of the frozen sand. Consiflerable improvement in all ice . sheets should be noticed due to the instal~ lation of the flashing along the outside walls and the edges of the cat walk in the centre of the rink. This flashing was installed to prevent water used in flooding from seeping away in the un- frozen sand under the cat walk and under the ovtside walk, causing bad runs and crooked ice, particularly on #4 sheet Many thanks to Scotty Hamilton and his helpers who. were responsible for. the installation, The curling rink will.be open to the public for two days before the mixed bonspiel and two days after. During these four days any person in the community interested in curling for the season is cordially invited to come down to the rink and try their hand at it. Club members will be there to.offer instruction and advice to the beginners, . The dates will be announced later in the "News", The mixed curling Bonspiel with the LongLac Pulp and Paper Co, trophy at stake should be interesting. This 'spiel is open to everybody in the community. Seasoned curlers are urged to try and form rinks with one or two in- experienced or prospective curlers to insure that everyone interested will be able to curl, Dates, rules, prizes, entry forms etc, will appear in next weeks News, Any questions about this 'spiel can be directed to Rune Ostling who will be in charge of all arrangements, It is hoped we have lots of entries. Who knows, somebody may spring another eight ender, Please vacate all lockers and remove all locks in the locker room before October 26th. Any locks left on lockers after that date will be removed, o-0-0
