Wood and Mr, T, Bowne of Fort William, representatives of H. C. Downham Nursery Co, Ltd., presented a show and lecture "Beautify- ing Canada by Landscaping", The programme proved of great interest and informative value, Mr. F. MacDonald, Chairman, Fort William Parks Board, introduced the guest speaker, The door prize was won by Mrs. M. Husband. Three special prizes were won by Mrs, V. Hopper, Mrs, E, Perrson and Mr. R. F. Middaugh. Prizes were nursery stock donated by H. C. Downham Co. The Society's next meeting will be held on Friday, October 26th, The programme for the evening will consist of slides and films of our Annual Show and Terrace Bay Gardens. Members are reminded to bring their soil samples for testing to this meeting, 0-0-0 A PROUD RECORD Just before the start of another ice season the Recreation Committee and staff would like to point out a fine record to the parents, teachers and youth leaders in Terrace Bay. The arena and Recreation Centre have now been operating for two years and never once during this period have our children and young people caused any vandalism in the Centre. During this same time the country has been beset with troubles of this nature and it certainly makes us happy to be able to make such a report here. Will each parent, each teacher and each youth leader mention this point to their children and let them know that is a record to be proud of. M. O. Nelson, ' Chairman , Terrace Bay Recreation Com, 0-0-0 KIWANIS ELECTS NEW OFFICERS Officers for 1957 were elected at the regular Kiwanis meeting on Tuesday evening. President for the year will be Jack Wellings and Vice President will be Ernie Rowson. New members of the Board of Directors are Al Harrison, Joe Sedge, Wm, Louk and Bob Hales, Lt, Gov, Norman Harrison was visiting the club and extended a word of welcome to the new officers. Plans were formulated for the Hallowe'en party and it was decided to hold three separate parties this year. One for child- ren up to 9 years of age, another for the 10-12 group and another for 13 and up. The amount of $400,00 was given to the Hailowe'en Committee as budget expenses. Tom Williscroft gave a report on the Kiwa .is Apple Sale and $200.00 was raised through the sale of apples. All of this money is given to the Hallowe'en activities, 0-0 SAFETY SLOGAN Winners of last week's Safety Slogan "Be Alert Remove all Hazards" were: J, Kilby, J. Yates, C. Gresdal, J. Long, J; Shubaly, J. Zigman, L. Vachon, N, Rennett, N. Banks and J, Desaulniers. Those who missed were: E, Young, L, Walker. R. Ferguson, W. Corrigan, M. Osmar, S, Matuszak, H. Roberts, J.
