TERRACE BAY TEACHING STAFF FOR 1956-57 SCHOOL TERM: On Tuesday September th "the three Terrace Bay schools opened their doors to an eager student body. The teaching staff for each school ae the term is as follows, Through the medium of this paper we would, on behalf of all: the people in Terrace Bay welcome the return of the teachers, particularly the new teachers to the community. We hope all the teachers and the pupils have a successful. and happy school year. TERRACE BAY HIGH SCHOOL STAFF - The High School has onechange only this year in its Staff, Mr. Terrance Hobin, B.A. Assumption University of Windsor, is replacing Mr. Kelly as our Mathematic and Science teacher, lr. Hobin's home town is Sarnia, so that he is obviously interested in Rugby (Sarnia Imperials), He is also fond of swimming and tennis. Incidentally, although Terrance is presently single, he is definitely spoken for, with the wedding date set for Christmas, ma Mr. Wilson, our language teacher, has been back some little while from a Summer Course in Toronto, He looks in. the pink of condition and eager to get. to work. Mr. Locking claims he also is in the pink of condition, but he doesn't seem to have put on many pounds, The Student Body are their usual live- wire selves, and the prospects of ten months of school doesn't seem to have had much effect in eee eee good spirits. More tna to them, : ST. MARTIN'S SEPARATE SCHOOL On Tee morning September kth St. Martin's School opened its doors to 171 pupils. Two newly painted classrooms, front porch and a gleaming interior and furnishings greeted the staff and pupils. Grade II classes are being held in the church basement pending the ihactvohen te of the two room addition, Miss Cathy Smith after abbondere the Dept. of Education summer school for teachers at Hamilton is in eee of the kindergarten. - In Grade I Miss Verna Claxton is again presiding. She spent her holidays with her parents at Strathroy and visiting in Detroit and Niagara Falls. © (Cont. on next col.) Page 6 TERRACE BAY THACHING STAFF FOR 1956-57 (Cont. ) Miss Pat Hunt who took the Primary Methods Course in Ottawa this. summer has resumed her duties in Grade II, Miss Rita Vezina after a year's ex- perience in Port Arthur and the successful completion of two Pre-Teachers!' College Summer Courses at the Lakehead is teaching in Grades III and IV, Richard Marcella successfully completed his first-year Pre-Teachers! College at the Lakehead: and is in charge of Grade V and VI. Ray Kenney has resumed his duties as principal and teacher of Grade 7 and 8, PUBLIC SCHOOL The teachers at the public school have returned to their job after spending the summer in various ways. We welcome Mr, Barry King, from Toronto, who will be teaching grades 6 and 7. Mr. King, a recent graduate of Toronto Teachers! College, was married this summer and he and his bride took a trip to Quebec City before coming to Terrace Bay, Mrs. King is a nurse, We also welcome Miss Alvera Wood, from Fort Frances, who will be teaching grade 2. Miss Wood spent the summer in London, Ont. where she took a course in Primary Methods, A graduate of North Bay Teachers! College, Miss Wocd has taught in rural schools around Fort Frances and taught at Finland, Ont., last year, Mr. John Morrison has returned to teach grade 8 this year after attending Assumption University in Windsor for the summer, Mrs, Shubaly spent the summer in Terrace Bay after her marriage' in Renfrew. She is teaching grade 5 this year. Miss Nora Montey, after having a short visit with Mrs, Shubaly in Renfrew, went to Hagle River and joined her family on a trip to the west coast. They went to the Calgary Stampede before making their way to Vancouver, 'Miss Pauline Dowling spent the summer visiting her family in Barrie. Miss Marilyn Gordon spent most of the summer as a swimming instructor at the Girl Guide Camp at Nipigon. She also made a visit to Minneapolis and visited with her family in Marathon, Mrs. Spencer: spent the summer in Terrace Bay and had her mother, father and sister up for a short visit. o-0--o
