TERRACE BAY MEN'S CHORUS RUS PRESENTS 3 3RD ANNUAL SING FRIDAY - JUNE 1 1956 ~~ The Terrace Bay Men Men's Ghorus: will present their 3rd Annual Concert on June 1 in the Terrace Bay High School Auditorium commencing: at 8:15 p.me This local group was. formed in September 1953 and, with music loaned by the Fort' William Male Chorus, began re- hearsals the following month.:- Miss B. 'MacAdam conducted the chorus during its! first and formative year.» In May 1954, the Male Chorus presented the first of their annual concerts to the people of Terrace Bay. ; In June vt ane Reba group of singers attended the Big Sing of the Associated Male Choruses of America (Upper Midwest District) held in Fort William as a guest of the host chorus. Two solo numbers were rendered by the Terrace Bay Men's Chorus. The Chorus participation in this Big Sing marked the end of their activities for the first successful year, Fall rehearsals began in 'Wetober of 'the same year undér the capable direction of Mr. Bert Lohr, In December, they did ' honours to "sing in the opening of the new Recreation Centre This Chorus was once again represented at the 1955 Big Sing in Rochester, Minn, This group of male' singers were now making a good name for themselves, both in Canada and the U.S.A. by their performarice 'as a solo chorus. While out of town for the Rochester Big Sing, they also participated in a second concert in Cadotte, Wisc, where they were joined by several other tember choruses of the A.M.C.A, to present a most impressive account of their ability to join together in the fellowship of song. Shortly after their return to Terrace Bay, thé group thrilled a most apprecia-- sive audience in their second annual concert. Ghorus engagements were also filled in Marathon and Red Rock in May and June 1955 and chorus recognition was most favourable, . Chorus rehearsals began again in September 1955 in preparation to attend the Big Sing of the A.M.C.A. in St. Paul, Minn, This Sing was held in conjunction with the St. Paul Winter Carnival held in February 1956, On May 17, 1956 undor the sponsor- ship of the Schreiber Lions, the Terrace Bay Men's Chorus presented an evening of entertainment to the residents of Schreiber, (cont. on next col. ) Page 10. TERRACE BAY MEN'S CHORUS (cont. ). On May 31, the chorus will sirg to approximately 100 children from both the public and separate schools, On June 1lst., the chorus will present their 3rd Annual Concert to the people of Terrace Bay. - The programmes are becoming increasingly popular and many people in this area are being pleasantly entertained with the musical selections rendered by this talented group. On June 8th, the Chorus will travel to Marathon for their Second concert in that town. "Under the direction of Mr. Bert Lohr and the accompanist, Mrs. Ellen Hodgkiss the Terra¢e Bay Men's Chorus looks for- ward to continued success in bringing' good music to the people of Terrace Bay ~ and surrounding Leu es 0-0-0 RECEPTION FOR FATHER GALLAGHER Members of St. Martin's Parish, Terrace Bay, and many of their friends gathered together Sunday following evening Bene- diction to bid a formal welcome to Rev, Father E, A, Gallagher, and also to congratulate him on his Twentieth Anniversary into the Priesthood. Eldon Marostica, on behalf of the parishioners spoke a few words of welcome to Father Gallagher and presented him with a spinning rod and reel which he hoped would be useful during his leisure hours, .In accepting the gift, Father Gallagher' expressed his appreciation of the welcome and friendliness' displayed since his arrival, and the hope that he would be able to transplant satisfactorily, from his old job at St. Joseph's Boarding School in Fort William where he had served for the past seventeen: years, to the new one here at St.Martin's Parish, Members of the Catholic Women's League served a luncheon to close off the social evening, With the two past presidents, Mrs, Ed. Cavanaugh and Mrs, M. Semeniuk pouring, tea was served from _& lace, covered table, centered with a low rose-coloured bowl filled with yellow and white baby mums, Flanking the senterpiece were tall white tapers in silver candlelabra, Mrs, Jack Todd, President of the C.W.L. acted as hostess for the evening, o---O0-o
