RECREATION FLYER (Cont.) TERRACE BAY RECREATION REPORT FOR THE YEAR 1955 (Cont, from last week) _ MAGICTAN SHOW In September, a small magician show was passing through our town going west, and we had this show play a one-night stand for the children, It was something new for them, and there were 78 children, plus 20 adults, out to see the show, Those attending enjoyed it very muc', HALLOWE'EN PARTY The Kiwanis Club sponsored an annual Hallowe'en party, to which the Recreation Association gave aid in the planning and programming thereof, All children 13 years of age and under were invited, and parents and children turned out in good number to enjoy this night of fun. The programme began with a treasure hunt right after school, and then the children went to the High School for their party. Treats such as candies, apples and peanuts were distributed to each child, The attendance for this party was 200 children. Five different organizations in town presented a 15 minute form of enter- tainment, as well as members of the Kiwanis Club providing lots of laughs with their antics as clowns, The Kiwanis Club in our town is doing a great deal of good work for the children, and we are very fortunate to have this commendable assistance in our programme, All those children over 13 years of age were invited to attend a Hallowe'en Dance held in the High School Auditorium that evening, MOVIE PROJECTOR COURSE This past September we offered a 16 mm, Projector Course. This course was planned primarily for those different organizations using our projector, We wanted to have the assurance that a qual- ified person was operating the machine when borrowed by these organizations. Twelve people took this 4-session course and all received their certificates. Mr, iien Hutchinson did the instructing, and included in the enrollment were high School Students and teachers from all three schools, Before an organization in tow may borrow the projector, they must have one of the qualified persons operating the machine, and those who passed the Course are willing to show films for any organization in town, Page 7 RECR#ATION FLYER (Cont.) CHRISTMAS PARTIES As in the past, this year the LongLac Pulp and Paper Company sponsored parties for the children. The planning and arrangements were turned over to the Recreation Association. Each year there seems to be more children, and therefore a bigger party must be planned, This year we had a junior and senior party for the children. The smallest children - up to and including Grade 3 - were invited to an un-programmed party where they were able to visit Santa and pick up a gift, Five girls in costume (Robin Hood's Merry Men) assisted Santa Claus in the distributing of these gifts. For the children in Grades 4 to 8, there was a theatre party where each child received a box of popcorn, a stocking and the showing of a movie. To plan these parties, an open meeting was held for parents to volunteer their ideas and views, and from these comments and suggestions, the Recreation Association drew up a programme for these parties, Each year we learn something new from our experience, but each year we still have the complaints of those parents who do not attend our planning meeting or assist in any way.
