KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS AMATEUR SHOW The golden opportunity of an Amateur Show for children cannot be surpassed in 'aiding their poise and development as per- formers, For children of Schreiber and Terrace Bay this opportunity came last Friday evening, May 11th when the Knights of Columbus held their second annual Amateur Gontest in the Terrace Bay High School Aud- -itorium, Very capably handling the Master of Ceremonies chore was Geno Caccamo of Schreiber, who glibly encouraged each child, and brother Jack Caccamo in the wings keeping things organized. Credit for the evening goes to Bill Sernesky as the hard-working chairman, To Miss Lila Petrus aged eleven of Terrace Bay Separate School went the thrill of winning the trophy presented by the Knights of Columbus for her accordian playing of "Hillbilly's Dream" and in the finals, "Swanee River", Winner in the High School Division, and runner-up in the finals, was Miss Carol Lalonde of Schreiber High, whose piano solo, "Galend- rina" earned her a well-deserved and close second place. Judging the performers were Mrs, Dave Locking, Terrace Bay, Mrs. D'Arcy McGuire of Schreiber, Mr. M, 0. Nelson and Mr. A, Wilson of Terrace Bay, Other winners of the Elementary school group were - Second - Little Susan Caldwell of Schreiber Public whose tender little "Mama Doll" song captivated her audience; Third - Helen Dennis and Sandra 'Locking of Terrace Bay Public who capably executed the Highland Fling; Fourth - Ivan Cocks of Schreiber Separate for his piano solo, "Ronde in C" (Mozart), Other competitors in this division were: Kay and Calvin Milks of Terrace Bay Public who sang "My Mummy Told Me So"; Geraldine Duggan, Sehreiber Separate played the piano solo "Strauss Waltz"; Bill Scott of Schreiber Separate another piano solo, "Minuet and Trio"; Diane Marcotte and Velma LeBlance of Terrace Bay Separate sang , "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" as an aotion Song; Theresa Speziale of Schreiber Separate piano solos, "Rondino"; Elaine Zyri of Terrace Bay Public who played on her accordian, "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean"; Frances Speziale another piano solo and student of Schreiber Separate; Velma LeBlanc of Terrace Bay Separate who played "Skip To My Lou" on the pianos; Margaret Dale Locking of Terrace Bay Public another piano selection this time "From the Wigwam"; John Needham and James Woodruff of Schreiber Separate eae "Jerry and When I am Big", accompanied (Cont. on next col,) Page 5 KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS AMATEUR SHOW (Cont, ) by Carol Lalonde, Betty Comeau and Gloria} Nelson of Schreiber Separate, also accomp- anied by Carol Lalonde for their song "Spring is Here", Mary Ellen Faust of Terrace Bay with a piano solo, "Valse Berlante", Eddie Kenney of Terrace Bay Separate School, another piano selection, "Old Black Joe", Dolly Louk played "No Place Like Home" and "Clementine" on her piano accordian. Dolly is a student of the Terrace Bay Separate = School. Vincent McInnes of Terrace Bay Separate and David Chopty of the Public School formed a duet to sing "Everybody's Got a Home But Me", Diane Levesque of © Terrace Bay Separate, another piano sel- ection, "Romance in F", Chris Cavanaugh of the Terrace Bay Separate provided variety with a joke, Anita Lafontaine of Terrace Bay Separate sang "The Man from China", Velma LeBlanc joined with Janis McInnes, both of Terrace Bay Separate to Sing "A Sailor's Life". Phil Moorey of Schreiber Separate, a piano solo, "Sonatina", Marguerite Anne Pineault of Terrace Bay separate sang "Way Down Upon the Swanee River", Ruth and Fay Thorstein- 'son of Terrace Bay Public School Sang "Faith, Hope and Charity". Rosa Speziale of Schreiber Public, a piano selection "Landler" and Ellen Knight of Terrace Bay Public, a piano solo, "Fairies Harp", In the High School Division the winners were: first - Carol Lalonde of Schreiber, Second - David and Donna Lohr of Terrace Bay singing "Never Leave Me", and third - Raymond Guillet of Schreiber singing "I'm Counting on You", For the first time an Adult Division' was added,though not competing for the trophy winning in this group was Mr. Bert Lohr of Terrace Bay for his magnificent singing of"The Holy City", while second place went to Mr. Frank Diano of Schreiber for his playing of "Tango of the Roses" on his accordian. Several volunteers stepped Paiael at the last moment, these being, Kelvin Milks, Kay Milks, Ellen and Tommy Knight, Barbara Pineault, Heather Sedge, Sandra Solly, Darlene Heinrich and Helen Dennis, Gary Fraser, Susan LeMay, Virginia Pineault and Lorne Turner, At the close of the evening Grand Knight of Council No. 3554 Eldon Marositca was called upon for a few words. He spoke his encouragement to the children and ex- pressed his thanks , especially to Mr, Sernesky for organizing the show, Mrs, Lester McCuaig of Schreiber, who accompanied most of the performers and Geno and Jack Caccamo,
