RECREATION FLYER (Cont. ) TERRACE BAY RECREATION REPORT SWIMMING it is surprising to see that very few people in our community over 15 years of age, swim, This is something which we are trying to improve this year. Last' year we hired an instructor and a life- guard. There were 53 children who passed their Red Cross swim tests, which was a larger group than for the year before, Most of the children are still working towards their Senior Swimmers! Award, We made a change in the beach area by moving houses ,re-building and painting all the floating catwalks, .this made our' beach look a' great deal 'Settton. : We are. proud to say-that we did not have any serious accidents during the season among our children, which is a pat on the back for the beach staff. We started a new phase in our swimming programme last year by taking children too small to go to the beach and giving them swimming lessons in the townsite wading pool three mornings a week, There was 2 great deal of work done last year to improve our children's wading pool, Parents -volunteered to come out and supervise these children during the afternoons, LongLac Company again provided bus ser- vice to and from the beach for the children and this was greatly appreciated by all, Inter-town swim meets were held with . Marathon, and we are gradually coming closer to the top in points - except that Mara- thon has an outdoor heated pool in which a great many competitive skills can be taught compared to those taught at a beach. FIGURE SKATING We in Terrace Bay were very fortunate in having a club professional teach sane 110 children, mainly girls, for 6 hours a week, In co-operation with the Kiwanis Annual Carnival, they put on a wonderful winter carnival, which proved that our children have a great deal of potential talent in this field. This carnival also included races and novelties, with prizes for everyone. This year our figure skating group met and formed the first Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club Committee. It is very active and doing a commendable job so far. (Cont, Next Week) 0-0-0 Page 12 FOR SALE The following doors are surplus to Company requirements and are offered for sale.
