BILL RANDA AND BRUCE REID GUESTS OF HONOUR AT JUNIOR TRADESMEN DINNER ie Junior Tradesmen Bill Randa, Sheet Metal Worker and Bruce Reid Instrument -- Mechanic were guests of honour at a dinner on February 29th in Hotel Terrace, Both Bill and Bruce had gone to High School together, worked on the Jackladder and in the Pulp Mill and now graduated at the same time, Advisory Committee member, Ted McInnes was master of ceremonies, ably guiding the graduation program. J. C. Wig, Plant Engineer congratulated the graduates in his opening address, C. G, R. Johnson, Chief Engineer and Vice-President of Kimberly Clark delivered the graduation address, and explained the organization of Staff Engineering and described how it had grown as K.C, had expanded, Closing his address he pointed out that this expansion requires people and that these people would have to keep abreast of the times through training and study. R. W. Evans, Chief of Engineering Services, presented handbooks and certifi- cates to the two graduates, He emphasized that study should not be stopped, but that the three year training program was just a beginning. Bruce Reid responded for the graduates at the end of the program, His speech was brief and well composed and delivered. Bruce thanked the LongLac Pulp and Paper Company and Kimberly Clark for the opport- unity he had received in learning a trade. He also pointed out how he and Bill had had parallel and close paths through life together, Since the inception of the training program here in 1950 we have graduated 17 Junior tradesmen. All but one of these is working here yet, Another noteworthy point is the fact that the original Advisory Committee, with one change, is still guiding the program, 0-0-0 FIRE PREVENTION NEWS TELEPHONE MISUSE A child in the Townsite for the last few days has been regularly dialing the Fire Telephone Number - The Firemen have not found out the child's name or address, therefore, the parents are asked to be sure their children are not misusing the telephone to this extent - the unnecessary use of the fire hall telephnne could have tragic results. Fire Chief, 'Page 5 TERRACE BAY LADIES DEFEAT SCHREIBER LADIES -- Sunday afternoon in the Terrace Bay 'arena found the Schreiber Ladies and Terrace, Bay Ladies battling it out but this time the \ Terrace Ladies found their feet and glor- iously downed the undefeated Schreiber Ladies 2-0, The first period started with both sides fighting to get the puck in the opponents end but R. Leclair of Terrace had a breakaway scoring the first goal. The home team had to fight hard to keep the Schreiber Ladies from scoring while L. Desaulniers was serving a 2 minute penalty for tripping. In full force again there was another breakaway and S. Dorman scored the second goal. The second period was a hard fought battle to keep the puck in the other end and though Schreiber had many shots on goal Brenda kept them out. Although each struggled for a goal none were scored and no penalties given. The third period saw Schreiber fight- ing more fiercely than ever to get a goal but to no avail. The Ladies on both teams were tiring by this time but continued to keep plugging away but the goalies were too good, The penalties went to Terrace Bay this period with R. Vezina getting 2 minutes for holding the puck and L. De- saulniers 2 minutes for holding, Gail McDonald fell striking her head on the ice after getting a hard body check, She required medical attention but was back as it was only a minor accident.
