The regular monthly meeting of the Terrace Bay Recreation Committee was held on July 13th with all members present, The minutes of the previous meeting were adopted and the accounts were also adopted for payment, A discussion of age limits in the billiard room was held and it-was decided to remove the age restriction on a trial basis with restriction at L, Checkryn's discretion. The work at the two ball diamonds was reviewed and a motion was put through to instal two outdoor toilets in that area, This year, the P,A. system has been made permanent, the change house brought up to date and ree paired, a canopy has been installed and St. Martin's school field has been changed around and a complete Little League Ball Diamond has been set up, All in all these improvements will cost almost $1,000. Greve concern was expressed by the chairman that despite a grant of $200,00 the Little League Activities had not yet started, This was Wm, Borsum's last meeting with the committee and the chairman tried to phrase the feelings of the other members regarding the contribution which Bill has made to sports recreation in Terrace Bay. Bill is going to be missed and it is going to be Hard to find someone who will take his interest in community affairs coupled with a knowledge of sports activities, The director presented a report of some activities. Tennis is flourishing this year; a Teen Town of 78 members is underway and as usual the playground and the beach are popular, The committee commended the director and his staff for the well rounded program, available for all ages, which is now underway. A discussion on swimming safety was held and it was decided to instal a snow fence on the open side of the swim area as the water goes off deeply. This will (Cont. on next col.) Page 5 YOUR. Committee to buy paint ($75.00).and the curling club to do the work, We would like to point out that it is hard»to' say "No" when a willingness to work is exhibited and accordingly all requests.were granted. In order to hold costs down the committee will be expecting this attitude from other groups in the future, 0-0-0 ANNUAL JACK FISH DERBY WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY JULY 21st. The first prize will Be @ 16! Chinook Canoe, Second prize is a Tudor Rolex wrist watch, There will be thirty prizes in all. A Derby Dancé will be held on Saturday July 30th at 9:00 pm. until 12:00 p.m. with Fred Soughton supplying the music. Door prize will be a beauti- ful mantel clock, The Derby draw prize is a 3 piece set of luggage. A complete list of prizes will be printed at a later date, Tickets may be obtained at the Warehouse or from John Laaja at the Woodyard, ~- O=0=0 WRESTLING In the main event of the wrestling card at the Arena Friday, Don Evans took just twenty minutes to batter Joe McCarthy into submission. The battering consisted of slamming McCarthy into one set of turnbuckles after another until he was groggy and easy prey for an arm whip and body press. Evans started the roughhouse with the opening bell and took the first fall with a top spread, McCarthy revived somewhat and took the second, but wilted fast when Evans went into' high gear and whipped him around the ring at will.
