HOMB AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION . A very large audience was.in attend- ance at the regular meeting of the Home and School Association on Monday evening, April 18th at the Terrace Bay High School. President, Mrs. D. Porter was in the chair. Reports were read by Secretary Mrs. Ginn on the March meeting and Treasurer Jim Corrigan. Mrs. Lois Hopper,delegate chosen for the Toronto convention of the Federation of Home and School Association gave a very interesting account of her trip to Toronto. Mrs, Porter reitinded the members of the May meeting when elections of officers will take place. The highlight of this meeting will be a fifty minute coloured film of the Queen's tour, The business meeting was adjourned and the programme turned over.to Mrs, Janet Nelson, ' The programme was on Stephen eats, beloved American song writer and the story of his life and the stories behind many of his famous songs. It opened with an old Stephen Foster favourite "Oh Susanna" sung by some of Mrs, Locking's grade one pupils, Prior to each song Mrs, Nelson gave a commentary of the story surrounding each particular song. Pupils of Miss Windle and Miss Morrow's classes sang "Camptown Races" directed by Miss Morrow, "Some Folks" was sung by Miss Whyte!s pupils and directed by Miss Whyte. "Old Black Joe" and "My Old Kentucky Home" were sung by the pupils of St. Martin's Separate School and was directed by Miss Morrow in the absence of Miss Quarry. Mrs. Nelson told the life story of Stephen Foster, which was a tragic one as he became an incurable alcoholic and died in a free ward, Foster was a very temperamental difficult person, yet he was a great genius as he gave us great songs, not just for an age, but for all time, leaving for the world over one hundred songs. The senior girls of the Public School sang "Way Down Upon the Swanee River" and"Nellie Bly" with Peggy Shirriff doing the commentary. Mr, Harry Coe sang a solo, "Beautiful Dreamer" and Janice Goe gave the commentary on this song, "Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair" the song which made the hit parade 87 years after it was published was sung by Paul Marcella, "Come Where my Love Lies Dreaming" and "Ring de Bango" was sung by a mixed quartet of High School students, Donna Lohr, Mavis Thorsteinson, David Lohr and Paul' Marcella, assisted by lir, Bert Lohr singing the descant of "Come Where My Love Lies Dreaming". NEWS The regular meeting of the Catholic Women's League was held Sunday night, April 17th in the Church Hall. Thirtv-. three members attended with President Mrs. J. Semeniuk in the chair. Following is the slate of officers voted in for the coming year, President, Mrs. J. Seme enivk; First Vice-President - Mrs. S. Todd; Second Vice-President, Mrs. K. Anderson, Third Vice-President, Mrs. R. Clifford; Secretary, Mrs, E, Falzetta and Treasurer, Mrs. V. Slattery. The officers will be installed at the May meeting. The C.W.L. Convention will be held in Fort Frances on May llth and 12th. Mrs. J. Semeniuk and Mrs. S. Todd will represent Terrace Bay sub-division, It was decided to have Communion Sunday for the Catholic Women's League on the same Sunday as the meeting is held, The members are asked to receive Communion in a body at either Mass, April 26th is the Feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel. As many of the League as possible are asked to attend Mass on this day. The member- ship Tea will be held at the May meeting under the convenorship of Mrs, J. Kennedy and group. All the ladies of the Parish ar are invited to attend this tea, Following the meeting, cards were played and lunch was served by Mrs. Y. Boudreau, Mrs. M. C. Kennedy and Mrs, V..
