BLUE CROSS HOSPITAL PLAN is The following information was re- cently received from Blue Cross. Dependents - age 18 "Protection for dependent children in Blue Cross family contracts may be continued after the end of the calendar year in which these dependents reach the age of 18, provided the parent completes a special application for each such dependent by the end of the year and pays the single rate beginning the following January. Even though the privilege to continue Blue Cross protection for these dependents is well known, and extensively oublicized each year, there are some subscribers who do not take advantage of this opportunity. The outcome is obvious: a dependent will become hospitalized and the Blue Cross' is unable to take care of the bill, neither can dividend benefit days, earned under the parent's contract, be restored, A great deal of consideration has been given to this problem and the following is being put into effect immediately: 1. DEPENDENTS WHO SRE NOW 18, 19 OR 20 YEARS OF AGE Any subscriber in your group who have dependents#l8, 19 or 20 years of age may enrol them during your next group opening period for new contracts effective on the group's semi-annual effective date. This will be the final opportunity to apply for enrolment of these dependents. x 18 in 1954. 2e DEPENDENTS WHO TURN 18 THIS OR FUTURE YEARS Application for continuous protect- ion of dependents who turn 18 this year, or subsequent years, must be made by the end of the calendar year, otherwise they may "re-enrol" up to June 30th by paying subscription arrears due, In this case dividend benefit days will be continued from their previous participation as Gependents in the parents contracts, but benefits will not be allewed from January ist to the effective date of re-enrolment,. Following June 30th, such dependents may enrol only as new group subscribers if there is a Blue Cross Group at their own place of employment, or as "Non- Group" subscribers if they are not employed where there are six or more on the payroll. NEW CANADIANS Arrangements have now been made whereby a Blue Cross subscriber, whose wife and dependent children come to Canada from another country, may make (Cont. on next col.) BLUE CROSS HOSPITAL PLAN tieiehe ae f application for enrolment of these dependanlia within 60 days of their arrivals A regular change card" should be submitted accompanied by certification of the date of arrival by a responsible company official. If the dependents are not added within 60 days of arrival, the next opportunity would be at a regular group opening. NOTE: The next semi-annual group opening for the LongLac group will be in May, effective July 15, 1955, notice of which will be in the "News". If any additional information is required about the above regulations please contact the Personnel Department, 0-0-0 SPRING HAS SPRUNG THE GRASS IS RIS! WE WONDER WHERE MALCOLM SPIDDELL 15??? When will the ice be out of Hayes Lake?? May 2nd say Malcolm. Better check that with your bookie first. Malcolm spent a considerable part of the winter in his original environs Nova Scotia, visiting his Dad who has reached the age of 92. | From Maicolm we learned that the term Bluenose as applied to Nova Scotians originated from a Nova Scotia potato called the Bluenose potato, This potato had a very thin skin and was blue in colour at the ends, and was in great demand in the eastern states. So Malcolm brings with him one of the more certain signs of spring and we are all glad to see them both, 0-0-0 KAP GETS BRADY; WE GET THE GOAT A farewell dinner will be held Friday, May 13th at 7:00 p.m. in Hotel Terrace, Since we are limited by Hotel -- Management to 100 people tickets will go on sale April 2lst on a "First call, first served" basis, You may procure your tickets from.
