column 'RECIPE OF THE WEEK "GUMDROP COOKIES 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 2 teaspoon vanilla a cup sifted all-purpose flour L/ 2k teaspoon soda 1/2 teaspoon baking powder pinch salt 1/2 cup desiccated coconut 1/2 cup gumdrops (small) . cup oatmeal (quick-cooking) s egg, beaten These cookies pack and travel well... Cream shortening and beat in' white and brown sugar until creamy and light, add vanilla, Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Take one-quarter cup of this mixture and sprinkle it over the coconut, gumdrops and oatmeal so that it is coated. Beat the sifted mixture into the creamed mixture in three parts, alternately with the beaten egg. Stir in the mixture of coconut, gumdrops and oatmeal.
