Page 12 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CONCERT SERIES A brief resume of the last two artists to appear in the next concert is first the violinist, Klemi Hambourg, ATCM, R.M.T. Mr. Hambourg is a member of the internationally known family of Hambourg of London, England and Toronto.,..teacher and chamber music artist... violinist of the "Pro-Musica string trio"... for six years has presented solo recitals at Toronto, Ottawa and other Canadian cities including on these programmes works by contemporary Canadian com- posers....during 1946-49 was associated with the Ottawa Philharm- onic under Conductor Dr, Allard de Ridder,also toured with the de Ridder string quartctte....has played recently in many cities and towns in Ontario under the auspicies of the Department of Education....presently with the master class of Professor Geza de Kresz of the Royal Conservatory of Music and violin instructor of the Oshawa Public Schools and Upper Canada College, Toronto. Lastly there is Miss Ruth Shipmen, who is an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Music and was under scholarship of the University of Western Ontario, London, England. She graduated from their Music Teacher's College and received the Bachelor of Arts degree, She studied with Clifford Poole, Miss Shipman has done extensive radio work for CBC from Toronto, both in accompanying and two-piano work, and performing a two-piano series from CFPL London, which was a Trans-Canada Broadcast, She has also studied under Margaret Miller Brown in Toronto, and was a teacher on the faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Music, Miss Shipman has entertained at summer resorts such as Big Win Inn in Banff, and this summer in Bermuda, She is now concentrating on being an accompanist in Toronto, Show your appreciation for fine music by attending these concerts, the next of which will be held on Wednesday, November 24th in the High School Auditorium. It is a great thing for a town of this size to be able to enjoy concerts of this calibre, but needs the continued support of the people to continue them, o-0-o0 SILVER BIRCH CHAPTER 0O.E.S, The High School Auditorium provided the setting for the Silver Birch Chapter first "At Home" on Friday, November 12th. The Worthy Matron, Mrs, Jack Rummery, charming in dark blue, led the Grand March, Mrs, Charles Sitch, who also wore blue, and her husband, the Worthy Patron, completed the first line, Mr. Alex Sinkins made a genial Master of Ceremonies and lively music was provided by Don Anderson and his boys, Squares, polkas and modern dancing were thoroughly enjoyed by the members and their guests. Coffee, sandwiches and a variety of sweets were served at intermission by Mrs. H. Goodfellow and her committee, Those attending were enthusiastic in their enjoy- ment and this promises to become an annual affair, o-0-0
