SOFTBALL NEWS Last Friday nigtt.Salary and Shift #1 replayed the last three innings of their Wednesday's game. Salary had protested the game on the grounds that Al Harrison was not out when he was hit by his batted ball while in the batter's box. .He had been ruled out by the umpire in the top of the fifth. The protest was upheld and the last three innings had to be replayed with the score 8-3 in favour of Shift #1. Salary scored one run in the fifth to make it 8-4, In the sixth Murdo Campbell hit his second homer of the game, Score; 8-5. Three successive singles with no outs then put Frank Whitfield in hot water, Bill Borsum fouled out and Shift. #1 got a gift of a double play when Salary exhibited poor base running. The man on third was caught off base, making it two outs. This was the ball game, Shift #1 scored a run in the sixth and the final score was 9-5 for Shift #1. Immediately after this replay Shift #1 met Shift 4-Structural to determine third and fourth positions.. Both teams weretied with a 7 won 8 lost record. The game soon: became a rout with #4 winning their easiest same of the year by a 16-4 score. Shift #4 scored in every inning but the 2nd, really giving Frank Whitfield a rough evening with 23 hits, Nick Chopty pitched a nice game giving up 8 hits, walking none, and striking out 4 men. Shift #4 didnit have much trouble in winning this one by an 8-3 score, playing heads-up ball all the way. Two nice double plays were a real factor in #4's victory, both coming when #3 looked like it might, break out, Alf Adrian was hit rather freely and didn't have his usual stuff. Five errors by his team didn't help much either. Henry Krahn played the best all around game without. a doubt.. Fielding well and getting 3 good hits, in 4 at bats, Hank was indispensable. Long got 1 for 3 for #3. Tonight these same two teams will meet again. to determine who will: get to the Finals and a chance at the Championship. The whole story of the game can be neatly summarized as~follows; too many #2 hit, too much Eddie Aho, and too. many #1 errors, Shift #2 got 15 hits and 3 walks, but #1 decided to chip in with ' 7 errors to help things along a little. Shift #2 gladly accepted these gifts, Eddic Aho pitched a nice game, giving up but 5 hits, walking 3 and striking out 5 to easily win this contest, Both Jim Moro and Marv Osmar hit home runs for #2 and Bill Kurylo got 3° for 4. Desrosier hit 2 for 4 for #1. Tomorrow night Shift #1 will again meet #2 in the 2nd game of their best 2 of 3, Last night they were rained out after 11/2 innings of play with #2 leading #1 b a 6-1 score.
