SOFTBALL NEWS Last Friday night Alf Adrian and #3 Shift again beat Salary- this time by a 9-4 margin, At no time was the outcome of the game in doubt, for Alf was in great form, never allowing Salary more than 2 hits in one inning and mly giving up a total of 4 while striking out 10, Shift #3 really put the wraps on the game in the 5th inning when they scored 4 runs on 3 hits and 2 costly errors, Although #3 got 11 hits, the 6 Salary errors were responsible for 4 of the 9 #3 runs. When errors are coupled with no hitting it's impossible for any team to win a ball game, Salary is om the verge of definitely being out of the playoffs. One more loss and they can abandon all hope, Len Crockford was #3's hitting star, getting a triple and 3 singles in 5 at bats. Al Harrison got a double in 3 trips for Salary. gs D #3 a 2 fe 2 - Sr OD Salary ; 0 O°} 0°30 te hie ee LOO Harold Hall was glad he attended this game, for he pocketed the $13.15 draw prize, Not bad§ Monday night Salary beat Townsite- Maintenance 13-7 in a game that is under protest by T-M, based on the failure of the Salary team to announce a substitute in the last of the 7th inning. As yet the protest has not been resolved, salary scored in the early innings and built up a 8-1 lead going into the last of (cont. on next col.) Page 6 . SOFTBALL NEWS (cont. ) the 6th, The game seemed well in hand at this point, as T-M lead had only 2 hits, However, the roof really fell in on Salary in this inning, for T.-M, collected 7 hits and 3 errors which were good for 6 runs. Bill Borsum ended the inning.with a beautiful catch of a drive by Steve Keller, The score now stood 8-7 for Salary and the game was anybody's, Salary cuickly scored 5 runs on-5 hits andl error in the top of the 7th and this lead proved too much for T.-M. they gave in meekly in their last chance, Rolly Grishaber with 3 hits in 4 trips and Eldon Marostica with a base empty homer were Salary's big men. Alf struck out 1 Shift #1 men and would have ended the game much sooner and with less runs for #i if he would have had any support behind the plate, © A heavy fog covered the field for most of the game and was definitely responsible for some of the "boners" while also slowing down the game and making it difficult to see the outfielders, Errors really killed any chance #1 - had of winning the game, for they committed 10 big ones - always in running - producing situations, It was just another example of giving away more than you. received.
