Ross, Cosgrove, Figtbmini, Souliere, Tookenay, Threwer, Bottomley, Hiller, Spikula. feb oe ee eee ee ee oe oe MERCURYS TAKE' DIESELS 8-4 Te Schreiber Diesels and Marathon Mercurys met in the Schreiber Arena on Mon- day, February 22 in the first game of their semi-final. playoff, The Mercurys took over from the opening whistle and built up a 4-0 lead over the Diesels in the first period. The second period saw the Diesels tie up the game with four unanswered goals. After having two long, hard fought games against the Terrace Bay Superiors, the Diesels app- eared to be getting leg weary towards the end of the second period and this showed up especially in the third period, The well rested Mercurys again took command to score four goals in this final period and defeat the Diesels 8-4. Towards the end of the third period, play got exceptionally rough and appeared to be getting out of hand, with players continuously roughing each other along the boards. Schreiber lost the services of Dean Cosgrove during this game, when he broke his ankle late in the second period. In the second game of this series on Tuesday Februa 23rd, 1954 Schreiber took ti first period lead of 3-2 only to have the ereurys score five goals in the second period and each team added another in the third period to leave the final score 8-4 for Marathon, The teams will again meet in Marathon on Thursday February 25th, 1954 for the third game in this series, 0-0-0 JUNIOR TRADESMEN CHALLENGE "PALEFACES" For a hockey game that should be packed with action come out on Thursday February 25th at Schreiber at 9:00 p.m. and see the challenge game between the "Junior Tradesmen" and the "Palefaces",. The Junior Tradesmen are out to give the "Palefaces" their first loss in four years. The "Jumior Tradesmen" promise some 550 Volt Shots on goal, some pipefitting on the posts and in general "snip" the"Palefaces" down to size.
