TH GUNNERS' COLUMN The Reserve jrmy has at Last come into its own with e new function, that of creat- ing units that will have active army exper- ience, This is to be done by rotation, that is by calling up Reserve Army units in turn, There is a place for all categories and all,corps, those who are accepted will be enrolled for three years. A married man, after one year's service cbroad, will be discharged on request, in the case of a single man, the oversens period must be at least two yeors, We heave not the honour of being one of the Regiments to be listed as an active unit but our turn will come, Towards that end, we hope to build up . nuclei of train- ed men, so that, when the need arises, many of us will be eble to volunteer if we so wish, Here is an opportunity for single and married men to come forward and join our ranks, Last Sunday, the Gunnery Instruct- ors went out on a recce for gun positions around Selim Hill and Rossport Railway Station. On Sunday, Mey 20th, the local Battery will move into action for the day. The scheme will take the form of a defens- ive exercise and will be carried out under field service conditions. The aim of the exercise is to bring the battery personnel up to the stage of training required to take the guns into action; prior to firing prectice, As this will be our first pract- ical manoeuver to attempt, it should prove to be of great value and a good turnout is requested, We have now started taking our mobile gun out and are practising setting-up drill, We shall continue with this practice until we close operations for the summer, fmother exercise is planned to take place sometime in June 2nd will be held in the Nipigon erea, We are asking all of our members to turn out as regularly as is possible so thet we can all be in on this for the exp- erience and treining. We are all looking forward to this, so let's all do it to- gether, Our Chemical Instructor, Sgt, Jin Cumming, is back from Camp Borden with a lot of hair-raising stories, Once again this year, there will be a summer camp on Vancouver Island, These camps provide an excellent opportunity to find out what the Active Army is like, All recruits are cordially invited; treining nights are Tuesday and Thursday AD (785: Dads Page 6 TACTICAL DEFENCE EXERCISE - MAY 20/51 Tt is desired that as many men as possible will attend this exercise in order to gain the maximum benefit from this pract- ical test of their winter's training. Parade will form at Armouries, Terrace Bay, at 0845 hours and will move off at 0900 hours. Personnel from Schreiber desir- ing to participate will be picked up at YMCA, Schreiber, at 0945 hrs, All ranks will wear Battle Dress, Boots, Web Belts, Puttees and Overcoats, Weapons, ground sheets and water bottles and other necessary equipment will be issued at the Armouries, 20 May 51.
