It is estimted, that in the event of War, we wuld require a force of between 36,000 and 48,000 to set up an adequate defence. Needless to Say, we are a long, long way from that figure right now and even if we were close to it, we would be a Long way from having every~- one trained to do their job properly and in order to be an effective unit, it would have to be properly trained and ready on the first day of war, On the outbreak of past wars, Canada has always been able to train armies 2s required but this cannot apply to an Ack Ack outfit where readiness is essential, We must organize and train now so that we shall be ready should the need arise, The excuse that "if we had had eufficient men and guns to withstend the attack, this wouldn't have happened", is not good enough after ruin and devasta- tion has been wrought upon us. At the present time the crying need is for pre- paredness, Each time we take a trip around this great country of ours, we are amazed at its vastness and beauty, let's do something about keeping it that way. While we were represented out on the West Coast recently, it was quite evident that our unit was easily the best discip- lined and smartest detachment from the East. It is hoped that there will also be a summer camp and that more of the men will be able to participate. Basic Training should be completed shortly and so we can start on gun deployment late in the spring. The co-operation of all ranks is requested to keep up the good attendance in order that we may keep to this schedule. It certainly is nice to know that we have so many friends at a time of need, A very sincere thanks to you ably Del & Emily Peppard and Family. 0-0-0 Page 4 BANTAMS COP TITLE Displaying a real fighting spirit and a will to bring home the first hockey Cham- pionship and Cup, our Bantams dished up a fine exhibition of hockey for a goodly number of supporters who journeyed to the Schreiber Arena Saturday morning, Coach Joe Adamos' much improved boys had to fight to the last over-time minute to satisfy their Schreiber oponents, After winning the first play off game 3 to 1 and tying the second at 2 all they needed only a tie game to take the cup. The game ended in a 2 all tie and the Schreiber team put up such a protest that an overtime period was agreed upon. Our boys showed a real fighting spirit to hold the fort. Schreiber scored the first goal but Kowalik evened it up in the second period by pushing the puck under the Schreiber goalie. Terry Cavanaugh slipped the puck through the defence and hopped around to shoot a pretty goal to put Torrace Bay one up. Schreiber got a lucky break when Boudreau deflected the puck into his own net while trying to clear. After the game Mr, Nick Linkwich, donor of the Mayfair Cup, congratul:ted the team and presented the cup to coach Adamo amid much rejoicing. Jimmy Cumming and Neil Ross handled the game.
