'Page 5 NOT:3S IN PASSING Do you remember some time ago, that we mentioned in this: column that by people here in Terrace Bay did have a regard for their neighbours? "The Passerby"! And would you agree with me when i say that it's the little things in life that count?? Well, we'll point out a wee thing hereabouts which proves the above points. Do you know the pathway thet goes from the C.P.R. station up the embankment to the end of Selkirk Strect? If you ever use this path you will notice that someone has taken the trouble to cut steps into the hillside so as to make it casier for people, We don't know who did this job, = but we can bet you our bottom dollar that they weren't paid for their time and trouble. We say that, whoever did the job is' a true good neighbour and we take this Opportunity to thank them for making things just a little - easier for all of us, Or did you ever use the path that climbs the embankment from the CeP eRe up to the back of Poplar Crescent?? Did you notice that someone has strung a wire handrail here?? Again we say, that we'll bet that this person never got paid for his trouble. To this person we also extend the thanks of the many people who use this path, And so we say, - we should be proud that people such as these live here in Terraco Bay and "The Passerby" for one, is darn proud that he is able to rub shoulders with people who think of their fellow Townspeople once in awhile, To really appreciate this you should go and live in a self-centered Town where people only think of themselves and to heck with the neighbours, We are indeed fortunate, and you and I should do all we can to keep our Town this way and attempt to follow the fine examples of good neighbourinass and good citizen- ship that we noted above, 0-0-0 SikeTy IS EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS Here is some interesting information comparing our accident experience of this year to date with the same period last year: Firat: fod Doctor Care Lost-time Work Days Frequency injuries Cases Accidents Lost Rate 1949 599 32 6 101 Reel 1950 358 18 i LS 3.60 Reduction 40% 43% 83% 85% 83% With such marked improvements recorded, it is important that the emphasis should be placed where it belongs and that is on human values, This year's reduced accident experience simply means that far fewer employees are having accidents resulting in injuries some of which would undoubtedly cause untold pain and suffering. If we had repeated last year's experience 241 more employees would have suffered injuries requiring First Aid treatment, 14 more employees would have had injurics serious enough to require treatment by a doctor and 5 more employees would have been involved in lost time accidents resulting in the loss of an additional 86 work days. And all of this accident prevention has taken place within the first quarter of 1950. Such an experience should convince even the most skeptical that "ACCIDENTS as PREVENTED! , 0-0-0 TONGLAC SAFETY RECORD (As of Wednesday, March 22, 1950) Safe days since last disabling lost~time accident 25 (Record 130) iilan houre since last disabling lost-time accident 87,500 (Record 470,000) Frequency Rate for 1948 e086 Frequency Rate for 1949 13.76 Frequency Rate for 1950 to date 5,60 Frequency Rate since Aug. 13/49 ght 0-0-0
