Page & LEGION NWS On December 17th, the local branch of the Canadian Legion had a banquet in © Hotel Terrace, This statement probably is no news %o most of you good Towns= people, but what may interest you about this dinner is that it was the farewell party of the 1949 executive. Comrade President Shaunessy acted as Master-of-ceremonies in his usual easy style and thus everything was a huge success. This writer, who is incidently a Legionnaire just told you the above news so that you would read this far. And, seeing as you have gone down to this line you might as well stick around and read the rest of this write-up. You see, we would like to take this opportunity to tell you what we have accom- plished this past year. We write this, not in a spirit of bragging but .simply as a report to you people of why we exist in this Town. This Branch, (No. 225) was formed with the sole purpose of uniting the many Ser- vice people of our Community. Shortly after it was formed, the idea of Service to our Town was apparent and thus all plans were laid down to further this idea. The first plan that was actually put into operation was the forming of a Boy Scout and Wolf Cub Troop, This has been highly successful and due to much good work on the part of the Scouting Association the Troops are to-day classed 2s the best younger Troops in the District, To put it mildly, our boys are a distinct asset to our Town, The continuance of these plans concerns the forming of Girl Guide and Brownie Packs for the girls of the Town, In order to set up these plans for Girls it was deemed necessary to inaugerate c Ladies Auxiliary to the local Branch. This, of course, was done and now the Ladies are busy setting up their organization in true Legion style, If you will permit a bit of "Whisble-tooting", we wish to say that any day now, you will sec the girls of Terrace Bay united under the banner or the Girl Guides. As we noted in the beginning of this article: the Branch wes formed to unite all Service Men and Women, To further unite all of us under the Legion Flag, the Executive deciged thet we should have a bit of fun once in awhile. Thus come into being our regular monthly parties, We must admit that they do get a bit noisy once-every-so-often but, what's the difference as long as we don't keep you awake nights?? Remember, we are not excusing ourselves,---we are simply admitting that sometimes our exuberance runs a little on the loud side. (Don't forget, this is a report to you good people, and thus iv should include all facts) The Branch has also sponsored dances, chicken shoots, etc., which add to the en- tertainment of all Townspcople. These entert-inments are put on in order to raise funds for the Branch. We have managed to do fairly well on these ventures and the money has been put aside for the costs of future Town Projects, You see, we wish you to know that the monies collected in this manner do not go towards supplying dinnezs, etc., for Legionnaires. The writer is not complaining, but dern it, the menbers of this Branch always have to pay for their own entertainment -- the Executive are nlways rominding vs that monoy collected on dances, etc., has to be spent for the good of the Town, The Legion Hall was secured through the goodness of LongLac Pulp & Paper Co., and thus the Legionnaires feel that we shouldn't be stingy with its so the Hall is available to any organizations who wish to rent it. "le have to charge 2 bit of a rental fee because someone has to clean the place up and heating has become a bit of a problem, All in all, good Townspeople, we are a bit proud of our Brench and we do hope that you are proud of us, If we don't come up to your expectations will you tell us, please? As we said before, this is our report to you of our year's activities, And, as you may note, we didn't mention the financial und of it all. So, now we'll tell you that we still have a substantial bank balance which we think is quite okay when you stop to con- sider the Scouts, Auxiliary and Hall upkeep and stuff. : To close, may we, the Legionnaires of your Town, wish you the most Happy and Joyous New Year of all Time, May you prosper and be happy along with us in our Town of Terrace Bay. There will be a meeting of the Women's Auxiliary of the Legion in the Legion Hall on January 3, 1950 at 8:00 p.m, Nomination of officers for the coming year will be held at that time, 0-0-0 COMMUNITY CHURCH CHOIR Members of the Community Church choir avc odvised that there will be no choir practise this Friday crening, nor will there ve a choir for the New Year's Day church servicc,
