Page 4 BIL], BORSUM TO HEAD SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION Softball enthusiasts got together on Tuesday evening, April 26th, to discuss plans for the coring season, and elect an executive. The mecting up to the point where the election was completed, was conducted by Ralph Shemanski, the 1948 President. 1949 officers were clected as follows: President - Bill Borsum; Vice-President - Peter Mazza; Treasurer - Paul Boudreau3 Secretary - Keith Adams. The business section of the meeting which followed the election was conducted by Vice-President Peter Mazza. ' One of the first items to be discussed was the. method of choosing teams which would play in the local house league, and two definite opinions were expressed. First, that Team Captains be permitted to choose teams at random, Secondly, that teams be developed by departments or groups of departments in the mill and Community. After considerable discussion, a vote was taken which indicatod that the majority favoured the departmental breakdown. It was then agreed that department representatives should be chosen in order that everyone throughout the mill would have an opportunity of advising these representatives of their desire to play in the house league. Representatives were chosen as follows: \loodyard - Bert McDonald and Edward Ives; General Office - Paul Boudreau; Personnel Office - Ed Brady; Services - Bill Borsum; Technical - Morris Howe; Pulp Conversion = Don Gow and John Schritt; Hotel - Keith Adams; Steam - John Holancin and Rudolph Schweedic; Structural - Bob Burella; Maintenance + Curly Hale and Nick Chopty. Residents of the Cormunity, other than Longlac euployees, who would like to play in the House League, are asked to contact John Cavanaugh. All of the above representatives will have application forms which each player is requested to complete on or before May 7th, following which the elected executive will meet with a representative from each proposed team to decide policy matters. Tuesday and Thursday - GQ agil, to Je noon, 1 pam, tO 7 Dee o-O=0 EVPLOYEES' BENEFIT SOCIETY FORMED AT TERRACE BAY Of interest to all the LongLac amployees is the recent announcement that an Employees' Benefit Society of the LongLac Pulp and Paper Co. has been granted a charter by the Provincial Government. The purpose of this Society is to provide a fund to be administered by an equal number of elected employees and appointed management representa-= tives. Societies such as this have proved exceptionally successful in other Kimberly-Clark mills, at the Spruce Falls Power and Paper Company in Kapuskasing, and in other large Canadian companies. Benefits paid to participants in the plan are in general as follows: Commencing on the 6th day of sickness or the first day of an off-duty accident, a daily payment of $2.50 ($15 a week) will be paid for a period not to exceed 26 weeks. To be eligible for this benefit, an employee must have been a member of the Society for a 30-day period. After.6 nonths' membership, annual financial assistance with dental bills will be paid to the extent of 50% of the bill, with a maximum benefit in any calender year of $15. Special financial assistance is also obtainable from the Society for special opéra- tions, also lump sum settlements where off-duty accidents result in the loss of eyes, hands or feet. ; ; Membership dues in the Employees! Benefit Socicty have been set at $1.50 per month with LongLac paying all administrative costs as well as contributing financially to the plan. Ina plan such as this it is important to note that there are no profits accruing to anyone and no administrative costs, thercfore all moneys received by the Society go directly into benefits for its members.
