During the past week, a Maintenance Department employee working in the Woodyard narrowly escaped serious injury during a pulpwood slide on one, of the block-piles. By quick thinking on his part, he was able to get behind a cement fire monitor tower Just as the sliding pulpwood reached the area where he had been. One of the recommendations which resulted from the accident investigation was that all employees working in the woodyard area should exercise caution when near block piles, particularly where there are overhangs. Auxiliary held their April meeting on Wednesday afternoon, April 15. Mrs. G, Maitland, Vice- president, presided over the business part of the meeting in the absence of the President, Mrs. R. Ostling. The meeting opened by the singing of an Easter hymn and Rev. Lavender led in prayer. The minutes of the previous regular and executive meetings were read and adopted. lirs. H. C. Laundy read the treasurer's report and also gave a very fine financial report of the Haster Tea held recently. ; irs. D,. Husband was appointed Property Convenor with Mrs. H. Byers as her assistant, The programme portion.of the meeting was taken over by the convener, Mrs. H. Marsh. 4 delightful solo was rendered by Mrs. Wainnika, accompanicd by Mrs. C. Simmer, Mrs. Marsh then called upon Rev. Lavender to give an address on "FAITH", which was most inspiring. The meeting closed with prayer which was given by Rev. Lavender. Lunch was served by Mrs, H. Marsh, assisted by Mesdames W, Baillic, A. Farrow, R. Harris, G. llaitland and H. Giuodfellow,. The May meeting of the Ladies! Auxiliary will be held Wednesday, May 4th, at 2:30 pam. The Convener of the programme will be Mrs. H.C. Laundy. and her committee will be -- Mesdames A. Bonnycastle, D. Brearley, V. Hopper, P. Rapke, H. Wheeler, E. Rowson, D, Porter and H. Byers. MARTIN'S BIRTHDAY BALL TO BE HELD ON MAY 20th Elaborate plans are being made by members of St. Martin's Ladies Guild for their second annual Birthday Ball which will be held in the Recreation Hall on Friday evening, May eOth. Roy Saari, his lO=piece orchestra and a vocalist from the Lakehead will supply the music, and the hall will be decorated in pastel shades in keeping with the Spring theme. Tickets, limited to couples only, will be $3 per couple, with a special door prize of a scenic boat trip from Rossport on which the winner may make up his or her own party.
